Niacin is part of the B-vitamin complex. It is found naturally in several foods which are consumed regularly. It is in fish, dairy products including eggs, and nuts. When consumed in these common foods niacin is not known to have any side effects.

Therapeutic niacin has been used by many in the medical field for treatment of high cholesterol. It is relatively safe and has been proven to help decrease the risk of having a heart attack. Niacin lowers LDL cholesterol and total cholesterol levels. Niacin also helps raise HDL cholesterol levels. It also helps to lower triglyceride levels.

It is commonly available at most pharmacies without having to obtain a doctor‘s prescription. Generally, it is prescribed at about one and a half grams a day. If needed, it may be increased but never to more than three grams per day. There have been instances when up to six grams a day have been taken. However, this has only been for the purposes of studying niacin side effects. Even though it is available without doctor‘s orders, it should not be taken without consulting a health care professional as there can be serious niacin side effects.

The most common niacin side effect is flushing of the skin. Usually it is limited to the upper portions of the body. Skin becomes reddened and itchy. This side effect is known to be lessened if an aspirin is taken about 30 minutes before the dose of niacin. Taking it on a full stomach also helps to reduce the chances of niacin side effects.

There are a wide range of possible niacin side effects. Even in therapeutic doses it can cause gastrointestinal issues. Nausea, vomiting and diarrhea are all common side effects caused by niacin.

Mild inflammation of the liver and an elevated blood sugar level is also possible. This is a common cause of gout arthritis. Other niacin side effects are flu syndrome, blurred vision, and a darkening of the skin.

There are some very serious side effects which should be reported to a doctor immediately. These are fainting, any difficulty with breathing or a severe case of heartburn. If you after taking niacin supplements any of these symptoms are experienced, contact your doctor or health care professional as soon as any of these serious symptoms appear.

Most niacin side effects are easily treated. Usually, simply lowering the intake of supplemental niacin stops the side effects all together. Always consult a physician before taking any kind of supplemental niacin.

Biotin is one of the B-vitamins. There are eight vitamins that make up B-complex. Biotin is one of those eight; and it is made naturally in the small intestine. It can also be ingested by eating meats and legumes. Biotin is given as a supplement in certain cases. A deficiency can arise during pregnancy and is often prescribed to avoid a deficiency.

There are not any known biotin side effects. It is far more likely that one will experience side effects from having too little Biotin produced in the body. However, there have been some reported Biotin side effects when too much of the oral vitamin is consumed.

Prolonged use may have an adverse effect on the body. The result may be a skin rash or infection. It also can decrease the levels of insulin in the body and can cause blood sugar levels to rise. These two reverse effects can have some harmful results.

There are rare cases of Biotin side effects. In one such case a large dose of Biotin was being taken along with B5. In this one case it did cause a life-threatening illness. But when the consumption of the vitamins was stopped the disease also ceased. It is not known if it was the combination of the two being taken together, or just large amounts of the B-vitamins which caused the near fatality.

Other than these rare instances there are no known biotin side effects. The reasons for these isolated Biotin side effects were either prolonged doses or over use of Biotin.

Generally, Biotin is used to treat or prevent several conditions other than a deficiency during pregnancy. Supplemental doses of Biotin are prescribed for instances of malnutrition. It is also prescribed for situations where malnutrition may occur such as long term tube feeding. There also times when someone has an unexplained rapid loss of weight where a physician may give Biotin as a supplement.

Biotin may also be taken orally for hair loss or brittle nails. It may be given to infants in cases of skin rash. There have also been instances when it is given for diabetes and in cases of mild depression. There are no known Biotin side effects when taken in a controlled manner under the direction of a medical professional. The best way to prevent Biotin side effects is to eat a well balanced diet which includes a wide variety of healthy foods. Before trying to take supplemental Biotin always check with your doctor, nutritionist or pharmacist.

There are many causes of celiac disease that force the patients to have gluten free diet. The reasons of celiac disease is the reaction that takes place between the immune system of body and villi (millions of lined up fingers like projections) which interferes with the body’s power of absorbing vital nutrients and minerals. This forces the patients to avoid the intake of gluten as they may face severe repercussions because of them. Severe diarrhea is the disease celiac patients suffer from due to the intake of gluten which is found in wheat, rye and barley.

The main cause of celiac disease is the obliteration of the inside layer of the small intestine. This destruction is caused due to the immunological reaction of gluten in diet resulting in the inflammation and destruction the inner lining of the small intestine. Researches have shown that this reaction is because of various genes inherited from parents by children.

Proteins are made up of extended manacles of amino acids, about hundreds close to each other. During the process of digestion, various enzymes act upon the food within small intestine and break the proteins into solitary amino acids and much smaller units. This is due to the fact that our stomach has the potential of digesting small amino acids chains. But sometimes, the food is not totally broken down and many bigger manacles of amino acids go in the cells lined up in the intestine. Long manacles of amino acids are many times toxic and damage the intestinal cells. As a result of this, tissue transglutaminase takes place.

Barley and rye are rich in gluten similar to proteins and can result in celiac disease in one’s body which is then transformed to other generations. However, consumption of rice and corn is not considered as the cause of celiac disease. No definite cause of celiac disease has been discovered up till now but hereditary problems are held responsible for the whole process. If your parents or parent is suffering from this disease, it is likely that you are going to suffer from it.

Celiac disease can be distinguished through gastrointestinal problems. Diarrhea, malodorous flatulence, abdominal bloating and increased amounts of fat in the stool are some of the signs which when seen in someone’s body, should consult the doctor. One should consult the doctor immediately to avoid any serious problems. Curbing this disease at its roots avoids serious complications and if controlled you may be allow having some rich diet.

Don’t take this as a new article to exemplify a new disease and to make you bored to death. On the contrary, pink eye or conjunctivitis or inflammation of the conjunctiva of the eye happen to be one of the most common diseases that does affect almost every region of under the sun. Can pink eye be called as one of the most uniform diseases in human society known hitherto? Well, you may term the same in that manner since you can’t find any city or region across the globe where pink eye is not present. Let’s focus on the basic notions of pink eye then. It may help use to ascertain the disease in an easier manner.

Pink eye (known as conjunctivitis, as already said) happens to be an infection or tenderness of the conjunctiva. What is the conjunctiva then? It happens to be the membrane that lines the eyelid and also the eyeball. Never consider this disease as too dangerous or something that is going to perturb the concerned sufferer for years to come.

Quite the reverse, it may die down in a week or two but the related symptoms are both exceedingly exasperating and ghastly. Some of the most disturbing experiences around this time) include itching, sensitivity, burning, redness, swelling, coarse experience below the eyelids and certainly discharge from the eyes.

Are there good ways to get rid of the annoying feelings before long? Try to make use of pink eye drops. However, care must be taken to bring good and effective pink eye drops into play. Copious numbers of eye drops are prevailing over the market but the majority of them are of no use. Take for instance, the OTC eye drops. These, as per quite a few studies of late, are capable enough to render relief for quick-fix dry eyes, especially when on earth the root is connected to passing circumstances. Don’t forget to take advices of a general practitioner before opting for any specific pink eye drop.

If you prefer to have my suggestions, it’s always best to steer clear of any decongestant eye-drop for dry eye. But the majority of people are found to go for the same; they are persuaded by alluring advertisements. Learn by heart that decongestant eye drops do function by means of shrinking the external blood vessels in the white parts of eyes (known as sclera, in essence), making them appear less red. Decongestant eye drops do also lead to dryness. You must have a pink eye drop but the same should be determined by the eye condition you’re having.

What are mesothelioma lawsuits and how do they arise?

Mesothelioma lawsuits are filed by the victims of mesothelioma to avail reparations for medical expenses, pain & suffering and loss of income associated with the growth of this disease. Mesothelioma is a kind of cancer, which is inflicted by exposure to asbestos most frequently used in industrial and residential places till the late seventies. The numbers of mesothelioma victims were on the rise as the employers continued using these hazardous materials despite knowing the harmful consequences of them. Thus the poor workers, who were ignorant of the potential health risks that they were about to confront, were the unfortunate victims.

In case the victim dies there is a provision that one of the family members or the executor of his estate can file the lawsuit. On the other hand a family member who has contracted the disease from the victim of mesothelioma can also file a lawsuit.

Thus, if an individual is victimized owing to the negligence of another person, he has absolute right to take legal actions in the court of law for compensation. An individual needs to first consult with an attorney who deals with asbestos litigation and on his discretion the victim can file the suit.

How long does the process take and what are the end results?

These lawsuits tend to be cumbersome and longwinded. It could also stretch to years even to reach any settlement. Again all lawsuits are not necessarily longwinded; some of them take lesser time. However, in some of the cases the victims receive negligible amount of money, most of which are used to meet the lawyer‘s and the court’s expenses. Nevertheless victims of mesothelioma should exhibit their rights and fight for their compensation. Again, mesothelioma lawsuits are generally settled out of court before they are set for trail. This actually makes more sense because it curtails court expenses for both the parties.

What can you do if you are uncertain about exposure to asbestos?

If you don’t know where and when you were exposed to asbestos, you should speak to your lawyer who will help you out. The lawyer may possibly hire a professional investigator who can make the necessary investigations so as to find out where the exposure had occurred and who are the ones that can be held responsible.

How much do you have to pay?

Factually, you need not pay unless and until you receive your compensation. It is only then that your lawyer shall take a percentage out of the compensation as his remuneration.

How much can you expect as compensation?

Well it depends on how creditable your case is. You will find that past settlements amounted to quite a ransom. But in the recent past with the subsequent increase in the number of mesothelioma lawsuits, there is a sleek chance to realize the entire amount.

The history of mesothelioma lawsuits

According to U.S mesothelioma history, the first ever mesothelioma lawsuit was filed in 1966 against the careless use of asbestos. But unfortunately the verdict went against the case. For the second time, another suit was put forward for a co-worker and this time the case was won. This gave impetus to all those helpless victims who craved for justice as innumerable mesothelioma lawsuits cropped up simultaneously.

Mesothelioma lawsuits also tells us that how ignorant people were initially about the causes and the aftereffects of the deadly disease. But now with the intervention of the law firms the victims of mesothelioma are provided with all-round assistance as regards lawful solutions to their righteous problems.

What is mesothelioma?

Mesothelioma is cancer of the mesothelium. Like most cancers, mesothelioma involves the abnormal dividing of cells of a particular part of the body — in this case, the mesothelium. Mesothelioma is so deadly because it remains dormant for many years and then begins to rapidly expand. The cancer in that case begins to invade and damage nearby tissue, including the vital organs.

What is the mesothelium?

Many of the internal organs of the body are protected by a membrane called the mesothelium. This membrane in actual fact consists of two layers of cells. The inner layer surrounds the organs, and the second is a sac surrounding the inner layer. When organs within this membrane must move, expand or contract — such as the heart, lungs, bladder, and so on, they are able to do so due to the fact that the mesothelium produces a lubricating fluid between the two layers.

Mesothelioma most of the time begins within the pleura or peritoneum. The pleura surrounds the lungs and covers the chest cavity. The peritoneum covers most of the organs in the abdominal cavity. Other mesothelium tissue is at the same time vulnerable to mesothelioma. These include the pericardium that surrounds and protects the heart; the tunica vaginalis testic which surrounds the internal male reproductive organs; and the tunica serosa uteri which is the membrane covering the internal reproductive organs in ladies.

Who is at greatest risk to develop mesothelioma?

Mesothelioma has a extremely specific cause – exposure to asbestos. During the first half of the previous century, right up until the mid 1970s asbestos was an important material used to insulate buildings, machines, heavy equipment, and a broad range of commercial applications. Simply because it was plentiful and low-cost to mine, asbestos was used in many building products such as home insulation, floor, ceiling and roof tiles. It was also used in commonly found commercial products such as brake linings and pipe insulation.

This meant that millions of people were coming in contact with asbestos on a daily basis. And since the effects of exposure to asbestos fibre often usually do not become apparent for 30 or 40 years after prolonged exposure, companies and health officials were slow to recognize the dangers of asbestos. As a result, shipyard workers, men and women working in asbestos mines and mills, workers producing asbestos products, workers during the heating and construction industries, and virtually every other tradespeople were exposed to asbestos fibres for extended periods of time.

Today it’s understood that anyone working with or near asbestos has an increased risk of developing mesothelioma, so you will find strictly controlled limits of exposure within the work place. Nevertheless since the dormancy period of mesothelioma can often be 30 or 40 years, there are millions of workers who are at risk because of their exposure in the decades before the safety controls were put in place.

What are the symptoms of mesothelioma?

Pleural mesotheliomacancer of the pleura or lung lining – causes shortness of breath or chronic coughing. Other symptoms of pleural mesothelioma can include chest pain, chronic coughing, shortness of breath, fatigue, wheezing, hoarseness, weight loss, or blood in the phlegm from the lungs when coughing.

Peritoneal mesothelioma affects the lining around the stomach and intestines and is generally just as harmful. Symptoms of peritoneal mesothelioma include pain or swelling in the abdomen, weight loss, bowel obstruction, anemia, and fever.

Many of the symptoms of mesothelioma can quickly be mistaken for allergies or a common cold. Mesothelioma is often discovered when patients think they have one of these other common illnesses.

How Serious is Mesothelioma?

By the time most infected people become aware they have mesothelioma, it is no longer dormant and becomes extremely aggressive. In its active phase, mesothelioma can travel quickly, and is almost impossible to stop. You’ll find treatments used to keep the patient comfortable, but there’s currently no cure for mesothelioma. As many as 75% of those who develop the disease will lose their life within one year. The remainder might last for up to an additional six months.

This makes it extremely crucial to detect the disease before it enters its active phase.

How is mesothelioma diagnosed?

Mesothelioma is often not diagnosed until it reaches an advanced stage. This is because of its long dormancy period, and mainly because once it becomes active the initial symptoms are similar to even more common and less harmful sicknesses just like colds or the flu. If a patient has a history of exposure to asbestos, in that case a complete physical examination is recommended. This would normally include x-rays of the chest or abdomen and lung function tests. It might at the same time include a CT (or CAT) scan or an MRI. Both of these tests give detailed pictures of areas inside the body.

If these tests indicate the probability of mesothelioma, in that case it is required to perform a biopsy to confirm the diagnosis. Carrying out a biopsy involves an oncology specialist taking a small sample of affected tissue and examining it under a microscope for signs of malignancy. Depending on the location of the affected tissue, carrying out a biopsy could be a relatively straightforward procedure. It normally involves the insertion of a small instrument into the suspect cavity. These surgical devices have both viewing and sample taking capabilities. So the oncologist or surgeon can evaluate the cavity from the inside, and then take tissue samples from different areas.

If mesothelioma is discovered, the initial tests are followed up with what is called “staging”. This involves more tests to determine how far the disease has spread.

How is mesothelioma treated?

Standard treatments include the normal options available to cancer patients: surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy. At times, these treatments are combined. Should the mesothelioma is discovered at an early enough stage these treatments can sometimes be effective.

Among the treatments that are used in order to reduce the effects of the disease are oxygen, postural drainage and pain killers. Many alternative treatment methods are also being tested, including attempts to strengthen the body’s immune system. Gene therapy is also being tested in an attempt to attack the problem at the DNA level. Other treatments being tried and tested include homeopathy, herbs and acupuncture. Unfortunately none of these have been found to be really effective once the disease reaches its aggressive stage.

As with all cancers, early detection is the best defense towards mesothelioma. Anyone who has been exposed to asbestos need to be alert for symptoms and contact a doctor immediately. Detecting mesothelioma at the earliest stage possible significantly increases the possibilities of beating the disease.

Mesothelioma is a deadly cancer of the lungs and the abdominal cavities. Unlike other diseases, the cause of mesothelioma is not natural. In most of the cases, it is a cancer of lungs inflicted on the human beings by the modern economic factors, which are also credited to bring prosperity to the corporate world.

The disease has left many dead and many more fighting for the failing health. The common symptoms related to the disease are breathlessness, dry cough and pain in the respiratory tracts followed by vomiting. The prime Cause of mesothelioma is the exposure to asbestos.

Asbestos is a natural fibrous material that was widely used in various industries and building materials because of its stability and heat resistant properties. However, asbestos is also a deadly contaminant and responsible for serious diseases such as asbestosis, mesothelioma cancers and lung cancer. Most of the diseases are caused by inhalation of asbestos fibers that could settle in the internal body organs and cause serious diseases.

Mesothelioma and other asbestos related diseases can lie dormant in the body for decades before diagnosis. The worst part is that after diagnosis the patient has hardly any left for fighting these diseases.

Asbestos has extensively been mined in South Africa and exported to UK & US factories for reprocessing. For many years, the industrialists enjoyed the benefits of asbestos as a cheap substitute to wood in Building Material Industry and an integral part of Brake Lining material used extensively in vehicles during the World Wars. Asbestos was also widely used as an Insulation material in the buildings and industries in the US and Europe.

The victims of mesothelioma can file lawsuits for seeking compensation against the companies responsible for asbestos exposure. They can seek compensation for medical expenses, loss of income, lost earning capacity, pain and sufferings. The family members and relatives of the people who die because of mesothelioma cancers can also file lawsuits for compensation to recover the loss of consortium care. A dozen of companies who made an exit from the business decades ago are still fighting the huge compensation bills pending against them for causing a major biological disorder. The courts have ordered huge amounts as compensation in most of the mesothelioma lawsuits.
