Betty asks…

What is a good site for tutorials on how to twirl flags and batons?

ok, so we have a lionette tryouts in like a week. I love baton twirling (not sure if i am good or not but batons are so pretty.) And their is flag twirling. I would feel safer taking flags because you know they are easier to control. Ok, so you know wat, scratch the baton part of the question. Do you know any good sites for tutorials on flag twirling. Thank you so much. Please no stupid answers.

Thomas asks…

How do you get to the creation tutorials in Little Big Planet?

I heard that you have to go to the creation tutorials in Little Big Planet to get the star sticker. Is that true and if so, how do you get there? Thanks.

Wize Guy answers:

To get to the Creation Tutorials you have to have access to My Moon which is unlocked after completing “The Gardens”. After you have My Moon you have to open an empty level and then you have to open your popit and go into the Tool Kit.You will find many mechanisms and contraptions of which you must complete a tutorial on how to use them first. To tell if you have completed a tutorial the little question mark icon won’t appear on the selectable icon of that mechanism. After each tutorial you complete you will earn stickers and items for you to use. The star sticker you mention is actually not obtained through a completion of a tutorial, it is actually picked up within the Skate To Victory level in the Gardens.

Are there any tutorials which show how to make great looking powerpoints?

I am doing a powerpoint on poetry for school and I have got all my information but just need to put it in a powerpoint. Problem is, I lack all artistic ability and have no idea how to make a beautiful looking powerpoint. I use Word 2007. Anybody know any tutorials or anything? Thanks.

Wize Guy answers:

I don’t have a tutorial for you, but I do have some thoughts.
People often get carried away with using effects and designs and all the extras on Powerpoint. There’s an old saying and it still applies: K.I.S.S. It means “keep it simple, stupid” (which is rather rude, so I like to say “Keep it simple, silly.”) Think of your Powerpoint slides as a guide, not as the main focus.

Avoid complex patterns or designs. Use a design that has colors that are pleasant to the eye and relate somehow to the poetry. Do not get carried away. Also make sure your TEXT is readable against your colors. Contrast is important, but avoid things like red text on black.

Avoid using special effects UNLESS they have a reason to be there. Fancy transitions do not a good presentation make. They distract. In fact, the biggest rule that people violate with PowerPoint is Don’t Use it Unless it Contributes to Your Message. If you are using it just because it “looks cool” it’s NOT contributing to the message.

Don’t fill up your slide with text. Keep it to a minimum. If you are talking about a specific poem, just use the PowerPoint slide to introduce things. Don’t put the entire poem on a slide unless there’s good reason to do so (and it’s short!) PowerPoint should be used to support what you are saying, NOT be the entire focus on your presentation.

Don’t worry about not having “artistic ability.” PowerPoint is not a design program (no matter what Microsoft wants you to think). Just use something simple. If you are talking about poems that have a lot of the same subject matter, find images (they don’t have to fancy and detailed, remember that can distract from what you are trying to communicate) of that subject or that relate to it in some way. Keep the backgrounds simple. Sometimes a single color with a slightly contrasting simple design can be very effective. For example, if you were talking about poems that referred to roses, a soft yellow to green background with a single pink rose in one corner could be very effective.

Also, when you use text, don’t use really elaborate fancy fonts. It should be a simple font that is highly readable. Otherwise people will lose your message in trying to read it, or will stop paying attention because it’s too hard to read.

Anyway, good luck. Don’t try to make it too “beautiful” because that’s not the reason for doing a PowerPoint.

Charles asks…

Will having a Tutorials and how to video section as well as a blog section on my website help with seo?

I am trying to increase traffic, increase my PR and get higher ranking for my locksmith company. My website is tailored for the consumer, but if I create an independent website with videos and tutorials on locksmithing, then link it to my company page, will that help? How about a blog? Which is better?

Wize Guy answers:

Yes, it will help. This is called link-baiting. You create a resource guide about your topic in the hopes that other will link to it.

You could put it directly on your site, though…no need to build a second website.

You could even do yoursite.com/blog and publish the help guides and videos there.

Good luck!
