George asks…
Whats the maximum humidity levels before you should postpone painting a car with automotive paint?
its 75% huidity in phoenix arizona currently, how will this high humidity affect my automotive painting results?

Wize Guy answers:
Anything over 60% you’re asking for trouble. To properly paint a car you really should be in a climate controlled and CLEAN room. But if you have no choice, and you’re going to do it in, say, a garage then you at least want to be sure you put a dehumidifier in there and try to get the area as clean as possible, evnt the smallest amount of dust will end up in your paint on the car, and the humidity will make the dry time a LOT longer, and can cause the paint to look hazy when finished, because of moisture trapped between paint layers.

Susan asks…
can you use gray automotive spray paint on a car dashboard?
i have a car that has rust damage done to the dashboard. i have some gray primer automotive spray paint. can i use that to cover the rust spots?

Wize Guy answers:
If it’s metal primer you can spray it on a metal dashboard. Sand or wire brush the rust off before spraying. Also, most primers will do almost nothing to prevent it from rusting again. Primer is porous. Its function is to keep paint from peeling off, not preventing rust. You must paint after the primer is on to prevent rusting.

Sandra asks…
Is Wax the best choice for todays modern automotive paint?
More and more people are complaining about streaks and swirl marks in their paint after waxing. Clay bar and microfiber towels are no help once the swirl is there.
Wax was originally designed to protect wood. it was used on enamel paints without problems but the hard lacquer and acrylic paints present another element and wax causes a lot of problems.
What works best on Todays, Acrylic paint?

Wize Guy answers:
No it is not and has not been for years.
Wax cannot compare to a new car factory finish. Thats why new cars do not have wax on them.
How many car companies put wax on their cars they display at the auto shows..zero..nada..none..Why?
Because wax is problematic and it ruins the factory finish.
I worked at several major auto shows as part of the detailing crew.
We never used wax and were given a liquid spray cleaner / conditioner to keep the cars looking their best.
The stuff works better than any wax you could put on a car.
Wax is too messy and time consuming.
Also wax causes other problems in the paint that manufactures do not want to deal with. Mainly covering up their new paint jobs with a lesser uneven shine.

Michael asks…
Where can I find matching ACME automotive paint?
Ive got a car that was painted a dark metalic blue ACME paint. My problrm is that I can not find any ACME brand paint any place. I dont know where the paint came from. I need to find a matching color for touchups and add-on like a hood scoop and spoiler.
Does anyone know where ACME paints can be found?
Thank you for your time

Wize Guy answers:
Any good auto paint supply store can usually match the paint color of competing brands or use a spectroscope/color matching machine on items like a gas door to determine what paint mix to use for a good match.
Autobodyonline.com is a good source for info on the trade.

Carol asks…
were can I get high quality automotive paint?
I am looking to buy some paint to paint my car. I want to paint my car exactly like it is now so I don’t have to paint all the cracks and everything. My car is a 96 Mazda 626. The paint code is 5s. Any advice/help would be appreciated.

Wize Guy answers:
Good quality paint go to your local NAPA store. High quality (custom) paint I’d choose House of Kolor. Remember…you get what you pay for.
