James asks…
What do you like in a movie?
Think of your favorite/liked films, what makes them special to you? What about the characters, plot, location, subject, camera angles, whatever? Define a movie that you would love.

Wize Guy answers:
For me, what makes a masterpiece is when all those elements you talk about are used in right in order to tell a good story. When the actors are good, the plot is great – it can be something quite simple but told in a great way: which brings us to the use of the camera angles, the use of color, etc. If those tools are used in a good way (like Orson Welles does in Citizen Kane or Terrence Malick does in The Thin Red Line or Michael Powell with the color in The Red Shoes) well it can make an excellent film and those are the things that make you [the audience] like it.
I like Chaplin because of his kind of humor, I like the Coens because of their caracters, the way they tell their stories, their sense of humour too and because they combine genres in a way that works and that isn’t extreme like “From dusk till dawn” for example (going from crime to zombies….), I like Tarkovski or Bergman because it’s a different kind of storytelling. It’s slow, it’s introspective.
But I like it when they mix something minimalist with epic like The Deer Hunter or The Thin Red Line…

How do I add a picture to my profile?
On the Profiles Edit Page, you can select a picture to appear on your Yahoo! profile. Click the “Edit Picture” link.
There are four ways to add a picture to your Yahoo! profile:
To upload a picture from your computer, click the “Browse” button to choose the item to be uploaded. Locate the pitcure on your computer’s hard drive, select it, and click the “Open” button. If you can’t find the file or photo, make sure you aren’t limiting the types of files shown in the “Browse” window. (To point to an item already on the Web, click the “Or point to a file on the Web” link.)
Give your item a name and brief description, then click “Upload.” There might be some delay or lag time while your item is being sent to us, depending on the size of the file and the speed of your Internet connection. (If you’re linking to an online file, you will see “Add Link” at this stage.)
Note for Mac users: If you use a Macintosh computer, make sure to add a file extension to the name of the item before you click on “Upload.” If your picture is a JPEG, add “.jpg “to the end of the name (e.g., a JPEG photo named “cowbell” would be renamed “cowbell.jpg”). If your file is a Microsoft Word document, add “.doc” to the end of the name.
To select a picture already in your photo album, click “Yahoo! Photos,” then find the picture you’d like to use. Check the box next to the picture name and click the “Select” button. The picture is automatically uploaded to your Yahoo! profile.
If you want to use one of the pre-selected pictures (our cartoon avatar images) from our gallery, check the radio button next to the picture you want and click “Change Picture.”
To point to a picture on the Web, insert the picture’s URL in the box provided, then click “Add Link.”

Steven asks…
What helps us build strong character?
The hottest fire makes the strongest metal..What meaning would you give this saying if you applied it to life?
Thank you..

Wize Guy answers:
I think these are two separate thoughts. I believe that strong character comes from having good examples as a child. If one grows up with examples of good character and sees how those people are respected, then one learns to admire those people. I know of no-body who would not prefer to be respected and admired. Being feared is simply a shortcut to a false respect and admiration which confuses some people. To be known to have strong character allows one to walk with their head held high and to have a genuine well deserved pride as opposed to being feared and know that one day the past will catch up to a person. being feared causes a person to live in fear of the past and that is not as advantageous as being respected.
What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger only if you are a person of character, otherwise you will simply find a way around a hardship and let someone else deal with it if necessary.
As for the hottest fire making the the strongest metal being applied to life. This is true only of those of strong character. A person of strong character may look at a hardship and say that it is not so bad because they have experienced prior hardships and they can derive pride of ownership in their life by conducting themselves in an honorable manner. Hardships give a person of strong character a chance to both demonstrate and display their character because it gives them a chance to realize the benefit of their character.
A person of less character may cave in in a time of hardship and take the easy way out whether it be doing a job in an unsatisfactory manner, selling out a friend, failing to repay a debt or any one of an endless number of ways a person could demonstrate themselves as a failure. This caving in causes a person to know themselves as a failure and present them self as a failure. It also causes them to become known and treated as something less than a person of character.
I guess my point is that, tome, it seems that when a person applies the saying to life it turns out that the hottest fire gives a person an opportunity to show what kind of character they have.
