David asks…

In an election, what exactly does it mean when one candidate concedes to the other?

We were watching the Massachusetts returns and this question came up. No one really knew the answer. Specifically, I was wondering if a candidate has ever conceded and then after the votes were all counted, that candidate was found to have actually won the election. When a candidate concedes, is that just talk or does it actually mean something? I mean obviously even when a candidate concedes, they don’t stop counting the votes. Thanks for any clarification anyone can give me.

Wize Guy answers:

No candidate concedes unless he has absolutely no chance of winning the seat.

Helen asks…

How long does it take a college admission office to get rid of the application of a candidate who was denied ?

For how long does the office of undergraduate admission(in most colleges in the USA) keep the application of a candidate who was denied admission?

Wize Guy answers:

I’d imagine there’s no set time – each office would make their own decisions. I’d imagine they’d keep electronic records of who’s applied for a long time, but anything paper-based would be archived or destroyed within a couple of years – not much point keeping all that.

Susan asks…

What experience does your candidate have?

Everyone is complaining that Hillary has no experience, even though she is touting 35 years experience. She was a lawyer (who also worked with politicians in DC), she was a councilor to Governor Clinton, she was a councilor to President Clinton and she is now serving her 2nd term as a US Senator.

What experience does the candidate you are voting for bring to the table that beats this experience?

Wize Guy answers:

Sounds like she’s only run corner stores and provided pillow talk to Bubba, when he behaved himself.

Romney is a true economist, building successful businesses from the ground up, saving the Olympics, and served as governor, which is far more valuable than being senator for a state you know nothing about. As governor, you’ve had a microcosm of what it means to be president. You have your national guard, worry about budgets, health care, state security, etc. There’s no contest:

ROMNEY IN ’08!!

Lizzie asks…

Are you going to support elected officials programs if your candidate does not win?

Do you expect others to support your candidate‘s programs if your candidate does win?

Wize Guy answers:

I was brought up in a different era than a lot of the posters I see in here. I was brought up that you always gave respect to ALL of those around you. But, you were even more aware of giving respect to those in authority ex: the police, government workers, soldiers, because ultimately they are working for us to make our lives better, which is why we live in the USA.
There is a good chance that Obama will win on Tuesday. At that time I will pray that all my fears are wrong and that he will not be able to follow through with 90% of his campaign promises and that the senate and congress will keep him in check.
Ultimately. If he is elected I will give him the respect. I may not like the man but I will respect the position.

Ken asks…
