Why does triumph use 3 cyl engines in their motorcycles?
A V twin has low end torque, 4 cyl has high end power. So does Triumph‘s in-line 3′s have the best of both worlds? Can anyone please give me information on this not so common engine configuration?

Wize Guy answers:
“best of both worlds” does have something to do with it. A triple gives a very usable spread of power and it makes a gorgeous sound, like ripping paper.
But I think it has more to do with creating a corporate image. Yamaha an BMW made triples in the past, but no longer do. Benelli still does, but it is a niche player. Becoming the triple specialist enabled Triumph to put its bikes forward as something unique and to avoid going head-to-head with Japanese fours or Italian twins.
EDIT: Triumph USED to make fours, a 1200cc tourer and a 600cc supersport IIRC. No more, though. They do indeed make twins (the Bonneville range)

Triumph Motorcycles…Business Homework!?
for my business homework i need to find out the form of ownership of Triumph Motorcycles…the products and a bit of history..i get the last two except the 1st one i don’t know what type of ownership it is….franchise etc? Help!

Wize Guy answers:
It is a private limited company whose liability (in the case of bankruptcy) is limited by shares (like a corporation in the US).
It, tenuously, claims to be the oldest surviving motorcycle manufacturer. But then there are several companies that claim that – H-D and Sachs among them.
Some historical models –

What is a good mileage for a classic Triumph motorcycle?
Hello. I am interested in getting a Triumph motorcycle from the 1960s or 1970s, or even older. What is a good mileage for those bikes. Also are rebuilt ‘classics’ good? Are they considered classics if they are rebuilt? I just like the look of old Triumphs. It is very subtle.

Wize Guy answers:
Everyone above is talking MPG.
If you mean how many miles are on the odometer, that can vary greatly.
Some bikes were rarely ridden, put away, and left to rot.
Others had the wheels ridden off them.
Even if rebuilt, it’s still a classic, as long as OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) parts are used.
I’ve had many 60′s (and 2 70′s) Triumphs in the past.
They’re amazingly easy to work on.
