What dance step goes best with Rodney Atkins’ song “Cleaning This Gun”?
My dad and I chose this song to dance to at my wedding next week! We want this to be pretty lighthearted so we liked this choice. But we’re having a hard time figuring out how to dance to it – swing is too fast for it and so is country two-step. Any ideas?

Wize Guy answers:
The song is 75 beats per minute, so its slow for most dances.
To me, the song has a Waltz feel to it (slow, quick, quick), so I’d recommend that. You can do a quickstep to it as well, but it’s definitely too slow for West Coast Swing or East Coast Swing.

John asks…
is there a general number as to how many bullets you should fire in a gun before cleaning it?
I am talking about a single session at the range. is it ok to shoot lets say 200 rounds through just one gun before cleaning it? should I bring a cleaning kit and clean it briefly after a certain amount of rounds? also does caliber have a factor to this question?

Wize Guy answers:
I’m guilty of firearms abuse. Lock me up.
I’ve been known to let my .22 Ruger MK II load up so badly with carbon and unburned powder and whatever other spooge that the breech face won’t lock up with the bolt. It takes a considerable amount of shooting to get the gun to that point. I have a .22 revolver that I shot for the first time in quite a while just the other day, and it felt “stiff”. I brought it home and scrubbed it, and even removed the cylinder and crane (its a S&W 617). There was so much varnish on the crane’s tube that mates to the cylinder, it was tough to spin. I bought a new Springfield Armory .45, and after a suitable break in of about 350 rounds, it got a scrubbing and a few adjustments to lighten the trigger pull. My Kimber went into the bath as well, as did 2 long rifles, a 7.62 NATO and a 5.56 NATO chambered AR platform gun. Both long rifles had just had an extended range session, with likely 150 to 200 rounds pushed through each. Reader’s Digest answer is, yes, you should scrub your gun after each range session. From a practical standpoint, I clean them when they are filthy to the point of ugly, or when they just quit shooting. I love to shoot, but detest cleaning. By the way, I cleaned 5 handguns and 2 long guns at that scrubbing session. Started at 11 in the A.M., and knocked off around 9 P.M. I know my guns pretty well, and probably strip them down a little more than the average shooter.

Donald asks…

Age limit on gun cleaning supplies?
First off I’m 17 and I had rifle practice this morning and when I got home I saw I was out of cleaning patches and bore solvent. So I drove down GI Joe’s (I guess it’s like Sport’s Authority or Dick’s) to buy some and I was nearly arrested. Is there some kind of age limit on gun supplies that I’m not aware of? Or is Washington (state) just way to liberal? I mean for God’s sake it was pieces of cloth.
What happened was that I put them on the counter, he asked to see my ID, when he saw I wasn’t 18, I was taken to the security office and my parnets had to come get me.

Wize Guy answers:
Yes it was just cloth, but you have encountered a store with a retarded policy and equally retarded employees. I ran into this trouble several times as well. I got turned down for scope mounts and a scope beacuse store policy was no sales to anyone under 21 (local gunstore).
I once went to Wal-mart when they had Federal 12 gauge shells for 2.98 a box, I had 4 friends in the car and I was picking up shotshells for us for a day of clay shooting on one of my friend’s farm. I got about 1000 rounds and the cashier flips out and brings over the manger. They demand to know why I need so much ammo, the manager claims her husband hunts and needs only a handfull of shells. I reply “well me and my friends shoot clays and we need hundreds.” The Wal-mart nazi manager tells me to leave or they are calling the police, so I went to Dunham’s and bought them for $2.99 per box and wasn’t asked a single question.
Rule of thumb is find a store that appreciates your business and deal with them. Or to avoid this patch hassle, flannel from old shirts makes excellent patches, I got to a local 2nd hand store and buy a bag full of them for $3 and they last quite a while.
