With the property market showing a rise for the first time in months people may once again be thinking shall i sell my house or just make it better. With many still unsure how the market is going to go I thought I would look at the centre piece or heart to any house the Kitchen. Whether you have a fitted kitchen a bespoke handmade kitchen or an individually selected array of kitchen units, the space needs to work for you.

It may seem like small things but anything that you consider doesn’t work for you should be jotted down and put aside ready for when you really do begin kitchen planning. A kitchen when set out properly makes working within it an absolute pleasure instead of having the normal conflicts of not being able to stand somewhere without being in the way. By making sure that a kitchen has areas within it that people can chill in and at the same time refining the work spaces to work more intuitively can make all the difference to this most central of hubs.

Fitted kitchens should only be purchased if you know that the person selling you that particular style of kitchen knows how a kitchen should work and that some things will work and other things wont. From the cooker itself there should be a very defined working triangle that gives you space to prepare food, an area to cook the food and a space to wash and dispose of the leftovers and preparation cast off’s. Any job that you do is simpler if you have the right tools to do it with, in this way you can ensure that any jobs you do in the kitchen can either be quick ones or just long extended enjoyable experiences.

Personally with most fitted kitchens I have done any cooking in the main downfall I have found with them is that they are often really hard to negotiate around. Making it extremely difficult to work fluidly and in some instances safely, we have a little boy and you need an area to be safe so that any children aren’t tripped over or stood on or worse have something dropped on them. Design can always make sure that things like this don’t happen with the addition of separate areas you can ensure you have a space that can be purely for eating and an area you can separate off with a simple gate to ensure you can work safely. I hope this is article is of use my name is David Harland.
