Jenny asks…

How much should air duct cleaning cost for a 775 sq. foot condo?

It’s 775 sq. ft. with 5 vents total. On the 4th floor in the Denver metro area.

I was just quoted $500. That seems extremely high. Anybody know how much is standard?

Wize Guy answers:

I agree that is very high. I have 12 vents in my 2,000 sq. ft. house and it cost me $675, which included carpet and basement cleaning. The initial quote the same company gave me was $2,100; I had them bring it down partly by getting rid of superfluous services and partly just hard negotiating.

Good luck!

John asks…

how much should air duct cleaning cost?

There seems to be a huge price disparity in the prices I see advertised.

Wize Guy answers:

The norm price is about $300.

Betty asks…

Is Air Duct cleaning necessary for my condo?

A local company is offering to clean the air ducts of my forced-air system in my little condo. Is this a totally bogus thing, or is it worth the money? (about $400).

Wize Guy answers:

It really depends on age & condition of ducts. If they are dirty, dusty etc it just recirculates the dirt into your house when heat comes on.
Then absolutely get them cleaned, with forced air I think professionals are required. They’ve got the tools to get it done right.

Get a second estimate & or ask the local company offering service for references from their customers, how long they’ve been in the business & what kind of guarantee they offer.

Wize Guy answers:

Hi Steve,

I live in Sherman Oaks:)and lately I hired Indoor-Aircare, they do air duct cleaning, carpet cleaning, asbestos removal and all those things. you should call them, ask for Razi, he was the one who was at my house – really good job, and honest people, no hidden charges, like many of the other comapnies! shoot me an email if you have any other questions.

Ruth asks…

I am told that “air-duct cleaning” is a waste of money, but what can I do to stop the continual mess?

The continual mess is that “soot” gets all over stuff in the rental property. You cannot feel it hit your face/body, nor can you see it. However, it makes everything in the place dirty. We have to clean quite often too. The problem has been better since we live here and change the filters on a timely manner. I just don’t know what to do about it. Please advise!

Wize Guy answers:

not all duct cleaning is a waste , there is a crew in my town that cleanes everything including the main trunkline..

some companys just blow everything into the main trunkline and leave it. so do your research and ask questions

It makes a big difference and the spray is very effective as well..(.if it’s cleaned properly)
