George asks…
Where can I find historical (1980 to 2009) state-level membership numbers for the American Medical Association?
I’d also like to find similar information for other professional medical associations.

Wize Guy answers:
Not sure but I would suggest looking for that type of info either on Wikipedia.org or by asking a professional trade association where you could expect to find such numbers. Im sure they would be willing to help.

Ruth asks…
How do you find out if a doctor is part of the American Medical Association?
I tried looking it up on the AMA site but I am having no luck. I did click on Doc Find but it didn’t direct me to a search page.
I am trying to find out about two of my mother’s physicians. I tried googling them, to no avail. Now, I am trying to find them in AMA.
Thanks for any help.

Wize Guy answers:
A doctor does not need to join the AMA (it is a society, it is not mandatory & it is expensive). If you are trying to see if they are licensed & board certified, you need to go to the STATE board of medical quality assurance to check on that.

James asks…
what does green peace, national rifle association, and american medical association have in common?
Also what do their symbols represent?

Wize Guy answers:
They are all lobbiest organizations, and non-profit organizations. The symbols represent their mission, Green Peace has a green peace sign, NRA had guns carried by the American Eagle and the AMA has the Staff of Aesculapius.

Is it the $138 billion savings the first ten years?
Is it the $1.2 trillion in savings the first 2 decades?
Is it their Hippocratic Oath to do no more harm to the 32 million uninsured?

Wize Guy answers:
they are in the Medical Field because they are concerned about human beings in general. they are tired of dealing with the bureaucracy and regulations placed on them by the insurers. they want the freedom of deregulation. they are highly intelligent and can understand the issues involved better then those who want to shut down government. they are patriotic and love their country. they want what is best for the country and the amerikan people. mostly they want to do their jobs efficiently . they want job satisfaction at the end of their shift.
