Ruth asks…

What is the best trucking company to work for WITHOUT having been to trucking school?

I am looking at working as an over the road trucker and would like to know if they still have companies that will hire you without experience, then send you to trucking school, and then you work for them for a year as reimbursement for the schooling. If they do, which ones are the best? I live in southwest Arizona and would like to drive mostly in the west with a trucking center in Phoenix, L.A., or possibly Las Vegas. Thanks, all opinions will be appreciated..

You can’t get any OTR work without at least 2 years experience, typically. You generally need to be over 25 and insurable.

what is the best trucking company to drive for in the US?

I am getting back into truck driving and am looking for a good company to drive for as a company driver. Any info and opinions taken!

Wize Guy answers:

There are many excellent trucking companies . But I’ve noticed in this economy that many are looking for owner operators and trying not to hire company drivers . Just do like everyone else … look around .You’ll find something . Drivers are still needed.

What is the best trucking company to work for as a husband and wife team?

Ive been a driver for 5 years working for some of the big companys (schneider, crst, covenant, american eagle) and they don’t work with you. Not to say they are bad companys, well crst definately is, they just treat drivers as if theyre just a #. I am currently looking for a job that will give me good miles with not alot of loading/unloading. But who will give you a good amount of time off and a company who treats you as a human.

Susan asks…

What is the best trucking company to work for in north America?

I’ll looking for a summer job in April 2007. Perfect driving record.
NO NYC, NO HAZMAT.

Trying to find a good company that have less than 1,000 drivers.

Wize Guy answers:

It all depends on how often you want to be home and what exactly your looking for in a company, and how much experience you have. You need to talk to some actual drivers for the companies your looking at going to. Their are a lot of good companies out there but their are also a lot of companies that will take advantage of you, lie to you and steal your hard earned money. It is good you are staying away from the huge companies. Just be careful and trust your gut. I am a truck driver and I bought my own truck last year and I have never been happier. If your just going to do it for a short time, take your time and do a little research talk to other drivers, and ask a lot of questions. Good luck!

Steven asks…

what is the best trucking company to start with?

My boyfriend is looking to start truck driving. He has been contacted by a recruiter to work for PAM. I have looked them up and I have heard their pay is really low. For working sooo many hours, I want him to be making some good money. Anyone have suggestions for a good starter company?
He has a CDL, but no training school or experience… He got on hisown by just studying really hard and passing the test drive at dps….

Wize Guy answers:

if your boyfriend just got his cdl and has no expierence driving OTR a good way to break into the trucking industry would be to first get a job locally driving a dump truck or belly dump or an end dump he will make just as much or more doing that, as an inexpeirenced OTR driver and he will be home every nite . then after a few years of doing that and he still wants to drive OTR he will have expierence driving and get more pay and the expierence he gets driving a dirt truck he will be glad he has when he goes over the road .this is how i did it and i have done both , i hate OTR driving but i love my belly dump job. one other thing beware of recruiters they will promise the world to you to get you to sign on with a company because thats how they get paid but they really dont give a s#%t about you
