Moms–What is the best “Home Party” business to get into?

Hey ladies! I am exploring the idea of being a Home Party consultant but I’m not sure what company would be the best to work for. I’m thinking about BeautiControl (which my mom does), Home and Garden Party, Pampered Chef, or Tupperware, but don’t know the true pros/cons of each. I asked this in small business section, but wanted to know from some moms b/c I’m hoping that once my husband and I have a baby to turn this into my stay at home job so I can still make an income but be at home with my child. Please advise! Thanks!

Hi, I would encourage you to become a consultant with products you are passionate about. Investigate the company completely. Is the market overcrowded, do you want to build a team or just do parties? Think about how easily it would to get bookings. What would most women like? I am an Entertaining at Home indep. consultant. It is a newer company with room to grow. I have loved it. We are like a combination of Southern Living, Taste of Home & Pampered Chef. We have high quality housewares, cookware , decor items, food and magazines. In a recent web cast there they said they are looking into things like chocolate & picture frames too. We have great digital home office rewards with things like iPhones & laptops. Check out my website:
robinwigginton.tohe.com to see the catalog & business info. I would love to help you. Feel free to contact me. Or explore other companies online by searching with words like home party business, work at home etc. Also, a good way to see if the market is flooded is to search on Ebay & see if a lot of the product is offered there. It is wise to be thinking of what you would do after a baby. I realized after my daughter I couldn’t, put her in daycare. Also, getting out of the house for your parties can be a nice girl/adult time break too. I wish you the best of luck.

Home and Garden potato soup?

O.k a while bak ago i had a home and garden party. The lady that came and did the party had amde this potato soup recipe. i was wonderin if any one had the recipe?….all i know is it had corn and potatos..i think she said it was like a cream of potato soup?…PLZ I WANT IT SOOOOO BAD……………

Wize Guy answers:

Some time ago I came across a recipe for a “simple” potato soup which basically involved adding some ingredients to canned soup. I had to laugh, because my recipe for traditional Pennsylvania Dutch potato soup is quite simple and fairly quick.

Potato Soup

4 cups cubed potatoes
1 medium onion, chopped
1 rib celery, diced
3 Tbsp. flour
1 Tbsp. butter
3 ½ to 4 cups milk
1 egg, beaten
Salt and pepper
Parsley

Boil potatoes, onion and celery in small amount of water until soft. Add milk, salt and pepper, then reheat. Brown flour in the butter and blend it slowly into the potato mixture. (Gradually add small amount of the warm milk to the flour-butter mixture and blend thoroughly, then stir into full pot of soup.) Add a little of the warm soup to the beaten egg and stir into the full pot of soup. Let it cook for a few minutes and serve with a sprinkling of chopped parsley.

CORN AND POTATO CHOWDER

2 c. diced potatoes
1 c. sliced carrots
1 c. chopped celery
1/4 c. chopped green onion (optional)
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
3/4 c. water
2 c. corn
1 1/2 c. milk
1/2 c. evaporated milk or cream
1 c. diced pasteurized cheese

Simmer potatoes, carrots, celery, green onion, salt, pepper and water, covered, 15 minutes. Add corn and simmer another 5 minutes. Add milk, cream and cheese; stir until cheese melts and soup is heated. Do not boil.

Note: I usually double or triple recipe.
