Maria asks…
motorized wheelchairs?
in wisconsin,,,, can motorized wheelchairs use streets and roads like motorized scooters,,,,
WISCONSIN BICYCLE LAWS,,, The bicycle is defined as a vehicle. [340.01(5)] The operator of a vehicle is granted the same rights and subject to the same duties as a driver of any other vehicle [346.02(4)(a)]
so do motorized wheelchairs fall under bikes too,,,, or must we stay on those uneven, bumpy, craked sidewalks ?

Wize Guy answers:
From what I have read, it’s legal to drive a powered wheelchair down the side of the road on either the shoulder or the sidewalk…..

I can’t give you a good answer, but I can tell you that they aren’t considered bicycles. That being said, logic suggests that if bicycles, horses, and people can use a road, motorized wheelchairs can as well, and that whether the law applies specifically or not you should follow all applicable traffic rules. (I do see them on the road here sometimes, but I live in a different state.)

Ken asks…
Do motorized wheelchairs come with a maximum and minimum speed?
I was brisk-walking this evening to catch a movie when a gentleman in a motorized wheelchair sped by me really fast. I would guess the wheelchair had to be going somewhere between 5-10 MPH or maybe more. (I’m a fast walker and this was easily 3-5x my speed).
Made me wonder if there are max and min speeds for motorized wheelchairs?

Wize Guy answers:
It does depend on the model and brand and level of disability of the person using the chair . I am a private duty nurses aide . I have a client that has an electric motorized wheelchair . The chair has FIVE speeds from which my client may choose . The speeds on THIS chair range from 1 mph to about 5 mph . There are many brands of chairs in various qualities and speeds ,not unlike cars – except that most are customized from the BASIC FRAME up , better ones are custom fitted with computerized measurements to make sure someone that spends most if not all of their time in the chair do not developed skin irritations , and ulcers as well as spinal deformities (SCOLIOSIS) through the use of gel-cushions and various types of bolsters . THESE ARE NON -GENERIC WHEELCHAIRS AND MAY REQUIRE A PRESCRIPTION. They range in price from about $5000.00 up to as much as $30,000.00+ plus. There are also generic units(SCOOTER IS ONE POPULAR BRAND) that are for folks that can walk , but not for long distances (similar to the ones you see in the supermarkets ) they are designed for getting FROM POINT A TO POINT B in a reasonable amount of time and may have speeds of 10 or so miles per hour which is the average brisk walking speed , hope that helps explain a little (very little for there is much more) about these fascinating devices that have helped given many disabled folks a new lease on life .

Steven asks…
Are people in motorized wheelchairs pedestrians?
Or must they follow the “rules of the road” like a car or someone on a bicycle? I’ve been surprised by several people in their motorized wheelchairs/carts when they enter a roadway or intersection. Can’t decide if they are very brave or unaware of the danger when they are out in traffic.

Sharon asks…
What bus tour companies in LA can accommodate motorized wheelchairs?
I contacted several because I want to take a city tour and they all don’t have buses with lifts (Grayline Los Angeles, Amazing Adventures, etc.). How is this even legal given that the Unruh Act is even more demanding than the ADA and the ADA stipulates that access must be provided?

Wize Guy answers:
Viptours and charters. I know, because my mother used one to do the grand tour of L.A. When contacting them, you have to ask specifically for a bus that is handicapped accessible.Good luck.

The heart of your writing while appearing reasonable originally, did not really work well with me after some time. Somewhere within the sentences you actually managed to make me a believer unfortunately only for a while. I nevertheless have got a problem with your jumps in assumptions and one might do nicely to fill in those gaps. When you can accomplish that, I would undoubtedly end up being amazed.
