How can I get automotive paint out of the backseat of my car?

I have mettalic silver car paint in the back seat of my car. the seat is fabric and it has been there over 6 months i know. I am not exactly sure how long it has been there.
the paint is ON my back seat!!!

Wize Guy answers:

The only thing I know that would possibly work is a solvent like paint thinner/lacquer thinner. If it is stiff, the solvent may make a bigger mess. The stuff is HIGHLY flammable and EXTREMELY toxic to breathe/consume. It would be better to spend a few bucks on floor mats, or a new carpet set for the car.

You could go to a junkyard and cut out a replacement piece from under the front seats to the back and drop it in. (You’d have to remove all the seats and some trim to do it right.

Helen asks…

Is a “distracting” automotive paint job illegal?

I have an idea for a paint job but I think that, for the same reason neon is illegal for anything but show use, that it will be concidered too distracting. I would hate to pay alot of money for it and just get a ticket every two seconds. Its nothing vulgar or inapropriate, it will just draw alot of attention, garunteed!

I know that there are many extravegant designs like on the Alpine show cars, but those are for show, so Im not so sure about a daily driver.

Any clue as to automotive paint job limitations?

Wize Guy answers:

Depends on where you live, in Australia for example, anything in your car that can be distracting to other drivers is illegal

Jenny asks…

Is there a non-glossy top coat paint for plastics or in automotive paint?

I’m painting different kinds of plastics such as computer cases and video game consoles and I need a top coat so the paint won’t chip but I don’t want it glossy. Is there any way I can keep the paint from chipping such as an undercoat that holds the paint better or something?

Wize Guy answers:

I think that automotive paint would be your best bet. They make a urethane top coat that does not contain a clear additive so it goes on flat. The idea is to spray clear over it afterwards, which you wouldn’t do. There is also an additive that you can mix with it when you are going to paint over plastic bumpers. This leaves the dried top coat somewhat flexable which might work for your application. To be sure, explain your project to the automotive paint shop service guy.

Steven asks…

What is a quality automotive paint sprayer? What type of paint should i use? Size compressor?

I own a 1963 Pontiac Lemans with the original paint on it. It’s been sitting in my garage for along time and i think it’s time i get to work. I want to do the work myself; I just need a little help. I want very good results.

Wize Guy answers:

6.0 HP or better two stage compressor, minimum 60 Gallon tank. A gravity feed middle of the road to high price HVLP spray gun should do the trick. I just bought two MAC tools guns. I really like them.
As far as paint a base with a urethane clear would be great for what you are doing.
You might want to go to A book store get or have them order you some books on body repair basic, paint basics. This months Petersons 4 wheel and Off Road, & Hot Rod both have pretty good body and paint how to articles too.
