Carol asks…

How do I start a cleaning service after construction is done, and what do I supplies do I need?

I just started my business and have a contract coming up on cleaning up after construction. I need to know how much should I charge and what equipment do I need also can I use regular cleaning supplies? Can anyone help or give advise, would greatly appreciate it. Thanking you in advance, Shirley.

Wize Guy answers:

You will need glass cleaner and a scraper. This gets paint off the glass without scratching it up. A dust pan and mop of course. I have some other tips for you. I will get it to you later. I want to know how did you get the contract to clean after construction? Send me an email at cnewtonus2002@yahoo.com

Lisa asks…

What are some everyday household supplies that can be used as household cleaning agents?

And how do I use them? I’ve heard that white vinegar makes faucets shine but would like some other tips as cleaning supplies are so expensive and they are also not good for the environment. Thanks!

Wize Guy answers:

baking soda and vinegar together or alone. they fis when mixed – good for cleaning drains/sinks

Laura asks…

Cleaning Supplies that are best to use?

So, I need to find the cleaning supplies for the whole house to use

Please tell me what kind and what brands are best to use, and other stuff i need like sponges or whatever.
Thanx.

Wize Guy answers:

Supplies:

Bleach for odors the bathroom etc. dilute it.

Amonia for windows and glass.

409 for stoves and greasy stuff.

Plain old paper towels get 99% of the job done.

And I love Swifter for floor cleaning, much better than a mop.

Lizzie asks…

Is there any proof that chemical based housed cleaning supplies cause allergy problems?

My allergies are always irritated, and I am starting to look at more natural solutions for everyday living in hopes of solving the problem. Does anyone have some successful and “green” recipes for home cleaning supplies?

Wize Guy answers:

Terri: Good for You! Household cleansers are loaded with toxins. Many of them contain formaldehyde (so do lots of your personal care items like shampoo too!!!).
I will give you a link to an article about the dangers of formaldehyde and you will certainly start reading labels. I will also give you a link to some stuff that I use to clean my house. It is made from soy. Turns out that soy is an awesome cleaner (works really well) and I like the fact that soy is a renewable resource unlike the ones made from petrochemicals. The added bonus is that they don’t have those awful smells!

Charles asks…

What are the most necessary cleaning supplies for a small apartment?

EX: supplies to clean kitchen and bathroom mostly…I need cleaning stuff for the floor, countertops, bathtub…

Wize Guy answers:

I live in a tiny 1 bed 1 bath.

These are all the cleaning supplies I own.

Windex Multipurpose (counter tops, windows, mirrors, floors)
Swiffer Duster
Comet Spray (Bathroom, kitchen sink, stove top)
Sponges
Paper Towels
Vacuum
Resolve for Multi-fabric (I use this as a stain remover for clothes as well)
Baking Soda (For washing whites mainly)
Laundry Detergent
Dish Soap
Magic Eraser (scuffs on walls)
Rubber Gloves (2 pairs, one for bathroom, one for kitchen)

I vacuum my kitchen floor than spray it with the Windex and wipe it down. It’s too small to bother with a broom and mop and I don’t even have storage space for those. I use a sponge and comet for the toilet with the gloves, I don’t feel I need a toilet brush because I don’t need to clean the toilet very often. Also my sponges have a life cycle, they go from dishes to floor to bathtub to toilet to trash. :)
