Donald asks…
Are Remax real estate agents held to an ethical standard of any kind?
My agent really screwed me. When I found a house and had it inspected, many serious problems were found. When I hesitated to follow through with the sale , my agent suggested that we get a quote from her contractor to fix everything . She said she’d give him THE SUMMARY to quote on. He provided a quote, we agreed to it, then bought the house.
Only thing is, the contractor didn’t quote on the entire summary…she gave him an incomplete list. YOU KNOW THE REST… now neither one will take my calls and I’m stuck with some serious electrical problems, and a heat pump that only runs on emergency overide. (I trusted her and no paperwork was ever signed, so I have no proof.)
HELP. I’M FURIOUS.

Wize Guy answers:
Your real estate agent violated more than one ethical guideline for real estate agents. The problem YOU have is that you agreed with her suggestions. You committed the cardinal sin of not handling these issues yourself, as you should have done. Absent anything in writing covering the incidents which occurred, it will be your word against hers.
My guess is the best you will get out of this is being able to vent by filing a complaint, and then paying out of your pocket for a VERY expensive lesson in buying real estate.

Carol asks…
Besides Remax, are there other real estate companies that charge desk fees?
Majority of the major ones do not

Wize Guy answers:
There isn’t anything at the office you can’t do at home. If you have a computor and a printer then you are in good shape. If you need to meet a client your office should have a room you can visit with your clients in. Have your calls forword to your cell phone or home phone. I have been doing it this way for 8 yrs now and do very well. I even use model homes for my office and hold open house 6 days a week.

Susan asks…
Remax or Prudential, which is better real estate office?
Looking to possibly switch realtors, go from local (large) agency to a national company.
Any opinions?

Wize Guy answers:
More than the agency is to get a good agent. In my area ReMax outshines Prudential 20-1. Another area the reverse is the norm.

Daniel asks…
What should I do to become a real estate developer or investor?
Im a senior in high school and plan on going to a community college for 2 yrs.and then 2yrs. at a university and major in bussiness administraion. I think while Im doing that I should intern for a big real estate place like Remax or something because I would like to learn the different areas of real estate like being an agent or flipping houses.I don’t know if I should go to Real Estate school after college or what.Any suggestions on what I should do?

Wize Guy answers:
I recently graduated college and I am employed as a commercial real estate appraiser. It is pretty funny; I went to a community college for my Associates and went 2 more years to a university for business as well. I think working in any aspect of real estate is good especially for you and your age. I think working for a brokerage is good because money is not a big object yet and you can work part-time as you go to school. Also, you will get a feel of the business and you will see the different avenues it can take you such as sales, financing, construction, appraisal, commercial/residential investing etc. As an agent you will be exposed to different dimensions of the business. My suggestion is to find yourself while you are in community college and then make a decision in to what major you will be in before entering a university. Good Luck!

Sandy asks…
Which Real Estate Club would you join – ReMAX / KW / Century 21?
Hi everybody,
I’m going to be a real estate agent soon, if given the choice to pick a brokerage firm for mentoring.. of which do you feel delivers the best knowledge, training, support and is always on top of their games?
What I’ve heard recently is when you’re new it’s better to pick the ones that offers you free office space, from what I heard.. only ReMAX gives you this benefit.. it that true?
If you will, could you please elaborate more on the benefit / values of being an agent and the club that’s offering today?
Much appreciation ![]()

Wize Guy answers:
as a new agent, the MOST important thing you can get from a broker is TRAINING!!!!!!! Again, TRAINING.
Remax is a great company, but they will NOT provide you with the training you need to start out.
I don’t know about C21 or KW in your area. In my area there is Long and Foster, which requires all new agents to take a FREE 2 week training class. This class shows you how to use the forms, farm, etc.
PS: did I say that TRAINING is the most important thing for a new agent?
