Mandy asks…

How do you merge a wikipedia article into a wiktionary article?

Wize Guy answers:

There’s no obvious “merge” feature, however, since both sites are open for anyone to edit, you could simply copy and paste from one to the other.

Lizzie asks…

Does the word ‘sustainable’ cover recycling too?

Wikipedia’s definition for sustainability (as far as ecology is concerned) is this:

(ecology) a means of configuring civilization and human activity so that society, its members and its economies are able to meet their needs and express their greatest potential in the present, while preserving biodiversity and natural ecosystems, planning and acting for the ability to maintain these ideals in the very long term

http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/sustainability

It seems to be a very broad term… Does it also cover recycling?

Wize Guy answers:

recycling itself is an act of sustainability by not completely discarding a resource. To sustain something is to keep it up, or make it last, so recycling is just that. When you hear people say ‘sustainable renewable resources or sustainable energy’ there referring to, most likely, a -renewable- easily attained form of energy like, solar energy, or natural gas…

hope that helped I would visit other sites beyond wikipedia…not a bad site but anybody can add anything to any of their definitions…

Lisa asks…

How does one pronounce the Latin word, “Letum”?

Is it like, “Let-um”, or “Leet-um” or “Let-oom” or something?

http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/letum

Thanks for any help ^^

Wize Guy answers:

The e is long, so it’s “LAYtoom,” with the oo pronounced as it is in “foot,” not as in “boot.”

Edit: Sorry to diagree with Mikhail, but it’s always been my understanding that the LONG u in Latin is pronounced like the oo in “boot” and the short one (which this word has) like the oo in “foot”–which rhymes with “put.”

Richard asks…

What does the word “Antonyms” mean?

I was looking up ‘Timid’ in Wiktionary, and one of the contents is “Antonyms” and it has “daredevil, dauntless, bellicose, wreckless, aggressive” underneath it. Any help? Thanks ;D

Wize Guy answers:

Antonym is a word with the opposite meaning of the one
you’re looking for.

The opposite of an antonym is a synonym, a word of
a similar meaning.
