David asks…

Does the Health Department allow in-home bakeries in Virginia?

I would like to be able to sell vegan baked goods at local functions and through the internet, but I’m not sure if the Virginia Department of Health allows in-home bakeries. If in-home bakeries are allowed, how would I go about getting a permit? Thanks!

Do you have to give the health department your private insurance?

I’m a student (23) and still on my parent’s insurance and I am having some gynecological problems that I need checked out but I do not want them to know. They will surely find out if I use their insurance. Is the health department safe and trustworthy? Do I have to provide them with my insurance information? The payment is on a sliding scale and you have to provide proof of income…will they just use my part-time job to determine what I pay? Point being is it possible to keep this from my parents at this stage if I go to the health department?

Wize Guy answers:

If you have insurance, you have to tell the health department. It’s fraud to say you don’t have insurance and get a cheap rate.

Susan asks…

How do you report someone to the nj health department for stds?

I know someone who has 2 diseases and will not do anything to treat them and is knowingly spreading them to numerous girls by not using condoms.
How can I report them to the health department of nj?

Wize Guy answers:

If the girls have gotten treated for STD’s, this has already been reported. Clinics and hospitals are mandatory reporters of STD’s to the public health department. Then, the public health department follows up with the people whom the girls state they believe they got this from and treatment is required. They will keep calling this person until they have proof he has been treated. They probably already know about this person.

Lisa asks…

when the health department tested private wells in a county for two impurities commonly found in drinking?

when the health department tested private wells in a county for two impurities commonly found in drinking water, it found that 20% of the wells had neither impurity, 40% had impurity A, and 50% had impurity B. ( obviously, some had both impurities.) If a well is randomly chosen from those in the county, find the probability distribution for Y, the number of impurities found in the well.

Wize Guy answers:

obviously, the events are supposed to be mutually exclusive,
so P(A & B) = 0.2 + 0.4 + 0.5 – 1 = 0.1
P(only A) = 0.4 – 0.1 = 0.3
P(only B) = 0.5 – 0.1 = 0.4

probability distribution
P[0] = 0.2
P[1] = 0.7
P[2] = 0.1

Sharon asks…

How much would it cost to take my baby to the health department for an ear infection?

A couple of my family members think my baby has an ear infection and they tell me that I need to take her to the Dr. I don’t have insurance up in NC yet but I heard the Health Department provided services for babies. I was wondering if anyone knew whether or not they would be able to diagnose and help me fix an ear infection and how much it would be. Please and thank you.
It’s not like I’m not going to take her to be treated. I know that’s the most important thing, I was just wondering about cost.

Wize Guy answers:

My guess is that there are health care clinics, but I don’t think that would address your current problem. For low cost care, either find a free clinic or try an urgent care center. Less costly than an ER and certainly appropriate for your issue. I found a page of links for that and put it below.

Another option is Minute Clinics or similar. I put a link for that as well. The cost is even less here if there is one close by. They can issue antibiotics.
