David asks…

Used Motorcycles?????

I just completed a motorcycle safety class in ohio and got my motorcycle endorsement on my licence. I am looking to purchace a motorcycle to continue to learn on. I am looking for some educated sudgestions at to what brands and models to look for. I think I would prefer used as my plan is to upgrade to something new when my truck is paid off in two years. Ideally a bike in the range of $2500 if possible would be good. Although I could go as high as $3500-$4000, based on input recieved here. I should also mention I am a big guy, 6’4 300lbs. I don’t want to feel like I am riding a toy. (picturing circus and clowns on small bikes) Also are there any styles of bike that are better for larger people. I really am open to any style. I am just looking to be comfortable.
Basically I am looking for a occasion weekday substitue to my gas gussling truck, and mayby a weekend ride here and there.
another concideration is I don’t want to buy too much bike for my abilities either, but want something that will grow a little with me.

Wize Guy answers:

Take a look at either a used Suzuki 750 intruder or Yamaha 750 Virago. Look at the ’96 through 98 models. These are dependable and fairly inexpensive machines, if the owner has maintained them properly. Also, they have a “big” bike stance so the size should be appropriate. They both have plenty of power and should be quite easy to ride. They have that Harley look alike spectre.

Take a look at cycle trader or craigs list on the web. Good sources to start your bike search. Also, before you buy, check the used motorcycle prices at NADA or edmunds also on the web. This will give you insight as to what you should pay.

Just take it slow when you start riding and after getting to know the bike, give it 50 to 100 miles you’ll be riding like a pro. Also, whatever you get, buy a shop manual for your particular bike. This will help you with maintenance, troubleshooting and familiarizing yourself with the locations of
mechanicals. Good luck, ride on Bro!

Mary asks…

What is the best place (online or offline) to find cheap prices for used motorcycles?

I want to know where I can find the lowest prices for used motorcycles.

Wize Guy answers:

craigslist.org

you’ll find that the best deals and cheapest prices are the hardest to get because by the time you find them, they’re gone!

so, refresh your craigslist page and scrutinize the ads daily.
