Mandy asks…
What flower is on this Better Homes and Gardens magazine cover?
I recently bought the “second printing” of Better Homes and Gardens’ “Easy Garden Guide: No-Fail Flowers.” It has a number of garden plants, mainly flowers, of course, but nowhere in the guide can I find the flower pictured on the cover. It’s a lovely purple flower with an odd look about it. The stamen are extremely pronounced, green, and they seem to be curling back on themselves. The petals, aside from being, well, purple, look a lot like leaves. The leaves themselves are actually more like a bunch of stems than actual leaves. The whole plant seems to be very pointy, all over the place, aside from the stamen. It’s a gorgeous, weird little flower, and I’d like to know if I can grow it here in Louisiana. The first few pages on the inside don’t have anything mentioning the cover flower from what I can see. Has anyone seen this little magazine? What type of flower is this?

My suggestion is to take the cover down to the local ag center and they can tell you….

Lizzie asks…

Maria asks…
Anyone have Better Homes and Gardens – January 2007?
We are remodeling our kitchen, and we liked a kitchen we saw in a Better Homes and Gardens magazine. My wife tore out the page, page Z4 from January 2007 issue. I got this issue out of the library, but no page Z4 (z as in zebra) (Better by Design – Comfort comes to the kitchen article). It must have been some supplement. Does anyone have this issue with this page? We are desperate for the kitchen specs from this article, which they often print at the end of the magazine. Please let me know if you have it, or have an idea what magazine it is really in…thanks!

Wize Guy answers:
Go to their home page and click on customer service in the upper right hand corner. Perhaps they will e-mail or fax that page. Or perhaps they have back issues for sale.

Lisa asks…
Rings in Ad for Better Homes and Cake Magazine?
There is an ad in an older Better Homes and Garden and the other magazine that has a cake on the cover every month (I am drawing a blank on the name). The add has a womens ring on a cherry or a little red fruit and the mens rings on a walnut. If someone could tell me the designer of those rings or even if the ad states what style rings they are that would be great! It is driving me crazy, I saw it once and fell in love with the rings! The cake magazine that for sure has the ad inside has on the cover is a mint tart style dessert. Thank you so much!

Wize Guy answers:
My advice for you would be to go on their website and contact the magazine (Better Homes and Gardens). Ask about past issues of the magazine and see if the sales/customer service rep on the phone can help you figure out which issue it is. They’ll have all the copyright information for photographs of products featured in the magazine and once you pinpoint which issue the ad is featured in, they’ll be able to give you the product name. You might be amazed how willing they are to help you find the info you’re looking for. I’ve had to do this with other various information I was looking for in the past. Your best bet would be to go right to the source.

Ken asks…
I need some help finding a recipe please. It is from a Better Homes and Gardens magazine from in the 80s…?
for stuffing/ dressing that has sausage, chestnuts and pistachios in it. It is for a friend who lost his recipe b/c of Katrina. Who would have thought everybody should take their recipe books with them? Anyway, I’ve already checked the Better Homes and Gardens website and they do not have it listed. Any help would be appreciated!
My friend has already checked at the library. They did not have what he was looking for.
The recipe is for dressing and has sausage, chestnuts and pistacchios in it. Do not say go to the library or check the internet. My friend check the library already and they were no help. I have looked it up on the internet and not found it.

Wize Guy answers:
go to allrecipes.com and browse the stuffing/dressing. they have literarlly thousands of recipes for everything. good look!
