Carpet Cleaning in Oakland, CA?

We need your help!
We are moving to Oakland next week and have already found new house. But before we move there, we are looking for good Oakland carpet cleaning service to clean all carpets, air-ducts, tiles…etc.
So can anybody recommend one (from own experience, please)

Wize Guy answers:

Hi!
The only company I can recommend is Oakland Carpet Cleaning. They are not only reliable, but honest and affordable (which is really important nowadays)
You can reach them at 1714 Franklin Street, Oakland, CA 94612 or by phone 510-550-1160.

Here is $10 coupon http://www.oakland-carpet-cleaning.net/coupons.html

Thomas asks…

how much would it cost to get my air ducts cleaned?

We moved into a new house a few months ago, and there’s a stale, stuffy smell that won’t go away no matter how much we open the windows and clean the house. It seems to get worse when the a/c comes on, so I think it’s just years of junk in the ducts that need to be cleaned. How much would it cost me to have this done? And who should i call about it? An a/c service company, maybe? If it helps, it’s one of those houses that has two floors, but the bottom floor is built into the side of a hill with the garage. So the actual “living” area is all upstairs, but the air ducts reach the basement as well.

Wize Guy answers:

Too much. It’s a rip off. The smell is coming from your cellar. Clean the cellar and use a dehumidifier.

Helen asks…

Picking my Battles…Advice on Money Issues with Hubby?

I’m due to deliver our second son March 12th.

I get little to no help with the “deep” cleaning at home.
Sometimes hubby will take out the trash or wash a few dishes…but I pretty much handle the house cleaning single handedly despite the fact that we both work full time jobs and he gets home easily 2 hours before I do every night.

I want to hire a cleaning service to come in and scour the floors and bathrooms.
I don’t think I can handle it between working full time, chasing my three year old and being this pregnant. The estimate I got was about $200 bucks.

I also would like to get the air ducts cleaned in our house and the best price I’ve found is about $150 bucks.

So for $350 bucks our house could be pristine and air quality would be improved and dust would be reduced.

I just proposed this to my husband and he just about flipped out and actually gave me the “we’re supposed to be saving money not spending it” comment.

Now that’s all fine and good and I could accept that..it makes logical sense….except….

This very same man…spent $1000 on a 46 inch flatscreen tv a little more than a month ago…were we not “saving money” then?

I would like your opinion. What would you do?

A) Disregard my husband and do whatever I feel is right to do while minding a budget.

B) Adhere to his judgment despite the total illogical nature of it…not to mention the selfishness, and wallow in our own filth since there’s no chance he’ll get up and clean.

C) Return his beloved tv and use that for a full deluxe spring cleaning so that I don’t “spend money”

D) Suggestions??

This is in “Parenting” because I see it as something that needs to be done in preparation for the home coming of a newborn…my husband seems to think it’s a frivilous expense.

Wize Guy answers:

None of the above.

I would tell him, very nicely, that the deep cleaning needs to be done. The air ducts need to be done. The scouring needs to be done. You’d love to save money, but it needs to be done. So, he can do it/help you do it, or you will hire someone to do it. You don’t present it as something you want. You present it as something that will be done, one way or another.

All the best.

Susan asks…

What is less risky to provide a service person for payment, credit card or check?

I am having my air ducts cleaned and the company/employees seem kind of sketchy. Which is less risky, to provide a check or my credit card for payment?
check gives bank account and routing number

vs.

credit card gives them my cc number

Wize Guy answers:

Being a retired fraud detective and current author of a book on fraudulent crimes, I would say you run a risk either way you go. If someone compromises your credit card account, you will have to file fraud affidavits with that particular financial institution. If someone compromises your checking account, you will be completing fraud affidavits with your financial institution as well as other businesses where the suspect(s) cashed the counterfeit checks. Once a compromised checking account is discovered by the victim, the victim notifies their banking institution and the institution usually closes the account. If the perpetrator(s) have written additional counterfeit checks, those checks will be returned to the businesses and the business, their check company, or collection agent will contact the victim.
It is important to remember that you can be victimized regardless of what payment method you use. I would recommend that you request the charges, in advance, and then use a money order or cashier’s check.
