Lizzie asks…

Question Concern Intex Swimming Pools.?

I am going to buy one shortly. Either Intex or Sand and Sea (from Walmart) Either 15 x 28 or 18 x 48. Not sure if to get the easy set up or one with the metal supports. Any advise.

Wize Guy answers:

Years ago I used to have an easy set up one, and it worked out just fine. That’s why I bought another one. It isn’t set up yet because the weather isn’t cooperating.

As far as the metal support ones go, I checked into them and they were far more expensive than the easy ups of the same size. And I’ve seen questions on here from people who have them. One was about one side collapsing. Another was about the poles sinking into the ground. I think I’m glad I picked the easy up. Fewer parts means fewer things to go wrong.

Anyway, that’s my opinion.

**Edited**

Try this:

http://www.intexcorp.com

It will then ask for your country. The first answer I gave you was for the US. Sorry.

***Let’s try this again.***

Mine gave me the option of:
United States/Canada
International

So I dug a little deeper and found this:
TOY BROKERS LTD.
MARKETING HOUSE, BLACKSTONE ROAD,
HUNTINGDON, CAMBS.PE29 6EF.,

Daniel asks…

above ground intex swimming pool, and well water problem – with iron?

We just got our 18”x48″ intex above ground metal frame swimming pool. We filled with well water, and it’s BROWN. I went to local Norbert’s pool store, and also Great Escape. They gived to me some iron controlling chemicals, and chlorox. After 2 days nothing seems to work. Please HELP. Kids can’t wait to get in to the pool. I was so sure those guys will know everything, and it seems, like they don’t. Verry dissapionting.

Wize Guy answers:

First things first. If your Well water has iron in it. you want to add an iron/metal removing chemical to your pool water. You want to have your filter running 24 hours a day until the water clears. Remember too that the “intex” comes with a relatively CHEAP pump/filter system, so you are going to have a tremendous time each year filtering this water. The intex filtration is a cheap small cartridge filter system. This is going to make your cleaning of the water take 3-4 days or even more.

Because it is such a small filter, and its a cartridge style filter, you are going to want to take the filter out, and hose off the junk every 6 hours or so. The more that you clean the filter cartridge, the faster your pool will clean.

Intex pool systems are nice, but they are intended for speedy set up and use with town water that is relatively clear, and as such is consumable for humans. They won’t tell you that, But with the size of the pool and the size of the filter, unfortunately these are the problems you will face every year if you fill with the well.

So… Filter Filter Filter, thats all i can tell you right now. The only way to filter and clean your water is to run the pump/filter system they give you.

Finally… dont be disappointed with the guys at the store. Pools are unique and every pool acts differently. You could build two inground pools side by side in the same yard, and in 2 years each will have its own flaws and differences in taking care of them, even though they are identical and built at the same time. So what i am saying is.. don’t feel like the pool guy at the store misled you. You can’t take the roughly 5-7 thousand gallons an intex might hold, and have a miracle happen over night. Consumers never look at themselves first. It’s not their fault you filled the pool with Well water.
Additionally. Any pool store that is “selling” CLOROX as pool chlorine should be avoided. Chlorine is much much much stronger than clorox or any other household intended bleach.

Finally… in closing. The kids “cant wait” is such a common thing, but its always the parents or adults in every case that waits last minute to set up a pool and get it operational. Do yourself a favor the next time, and set it up 2 weeks before you want to use it. If it only takes 4 days to clear up and Get clean, consider yourself lucky, and now your kids will benefit by being able to use it early. To set it up and think that the next day you will be swimming is unrealistic.

Lisa asks…

how to clean a above ground intex brand swimming pool.?

its a soft side intex 18ftx4ft pool. i pulled it out today and was going to set it up, but it is filthy and i want advice on the best way to clean it. we moved in a big hurry last year and it sat on the side of the house and has mud and water all over the inside and the out side and i would like to clean it up for the kids without having to buy a new one. any suggestion would be appreciated very much, thanks in advance for the help.

Wize Guy answers:

Use a good cleaner with a hose and some soft scrubbers . Have some helpers (the kids?) hold up the sides while you clean and rinse. Use a shop vac or pump to get out the water in the bottom. Be carefull of water and electricity. When the inside is clean fill it and then clean the outside. Any stains will likely fade from using chlorine.
