Opel has announced the introduction of a stop-start package along with its ecoFLEX on the current Astra. The Compact boasts a fuel consumption of 4.5 liters/100 km.
Opel has officially announced the launch of the most economical Astra ever created at Rsselsheim. The German compact received the EcoFlex package and a start-stop system, in order to obtain a low level of consumption and emissions. The environmental package is available with the 2.0 CDTI diesel engine of 160 horsepower, assisted by six-speed manual transmission.
According to the official announcement, all ecoFlex city manages to reduce the consumption by about 13%, meaning somewhere about 0.8 liters per 100 kilometers. The start-stop-system helps a lot the ecoFlex version, and managed to reduce the average consumption from 4.9 to 4.5 litres/100 km. The same improvements and derivative Estate, Astra Sports Tourer, which recorded an average consumption reduction from 5.1 to 4.7 liters per 100 kilometers.
The emissions of both models are significantly reduced. If we get the hatchback version we can reach from 129 to 119 grams per kilometer, while in the case of the break versions, the value decreases from 134-124 g / km.
The new start-stop system, developed in the interiors of the Opel laboratories has already been introduced on the younger brother of the current Astra, the brand new refresh Corsa, which boasts a fuel consumption of just 3.5 litres/100 km.
Opel has big plans for his own start-stop system, it will going to be extended in several versions and models of the range. By 2012, the manufacturer will offer 34 different versions equipped with start-stop system.
Opel has confirmed that will produce a convertible version of the Astra. The model will meet the audience in 2013.
The new model will be produced in Poland in Gliwice plant and it is a part of the next five years investment of Russelsheim manufacturer. The future model of Opel Astra Cabrio will become the main rival of the Golf VI Cabriolet.
