Ken asks…
Anyone know how how to make an air compressor that will run from a truck mount carpet cleaning machine?
I own a carpet cleaning business and we are starting to clean air ducts using compressed air. I would like to figure out some way to use my truck mount machine (22 HP engine) to generate air, either to fill a tank, or just to create a constant supply of air to clean the ducts. Any ideas?

Wize Guy answers:
your gonna need a tank and get it to fill the tank that way you have constant pressure.

Sandy asks…
what is the best choice for duct cleaning?
What is the best way to have an air duct cleaned.
There seems to be a few choices.
1. there is strong vacuum stemming from a truck that vacuums
your duct system
2. some guy comes in with a strong hepa vacuum and uses negative air vacuum force to suck in all the materials from teh basement area where all the duct work starts.
3. some guy comes in with a rotobrush machine…and goes into each vent individually wiht a long hose and vacuums there…which is the best.
Thank you,
Ira

Wize Guy answers:
I worked on HVAC breiefly and depending on how old the duct is and how much the cost of each is it might be more cost effective in the long run just to replace it yourself. It depends on why you want it cleaned such as decreased airflow or whatever your complaint is. To replace it it would probably be cost less then 500 for materials and take about 1 day to run it so figure out what is best for you

I need your professional advice regarding an opening of a new business?
A friend of mine is thinking to get into the air duct cleaning business. (He was working for such company a long time ago)
Dose any body knows anything about that kind of business? (Maybe also carpet cleaning)
Do you have to have a license to do air duct cleaning? (In Texas)
My friend told me that it is only brushing and vacuuming of the ducts with the air duct cleaning machine. Nothing complicated

Check out sba.gov….Small Business Administration…lots of useful info on starting a business. There are also SCORE counselors listed (by area) that will help you out. You need to be very aware of the regulations you must comply with in starting out, as not following them is the reason why most new small businesses fail. You should also pull together a business plan so you know if financially this will be a good venture! GOOD LUCK!

Black mold in apartment air vents?
We bought a test kit and tested the apartment for mold and it came back as saying that it was black mold. We told the apartment manager and they said they would clean it, and they claimed that they fixed it even though they didn’t really do anything. We again asked them to clean it and then never heard back from them. We then had our attorney send them a notice telling them to clean it. Now the apartment complex is saying that pet odor caused the mold and that they are bringing in some kind of air testing machine that they say is going to prove that our pets caused the mold in the air vents/ducts, which is just plain stupid. Is there anything else we need to do other than stay in contact with our attorney?
We are no longer staying in the apartment, we are staying with family at the moment. The mold is only in the air ducts which are in the ceiling so yeah lol we know our dogs didn’t pee in it lol

Wize Guy answers:
Contact your local Health Department and ask what you can do? They may send the owners a letter demanding they remediate that black mold. It can make you sick and it’s a very bad environment. Also, make a call to your state health department in your state capitol and ask questions on what you can do. They are there to protect you. Let them help.
