Jenny asks…

cleaning supplies?

What are your favorite cleaning supplies for the different areas?
Tile, laminate hardwood, carpet stains, stainless steel, bathroom?

Wize Guy answers:

I don’t have any tile, but for laminate hardwood and my bathroom, I use Lysol All-Purpose cleaner, except my shower, which I use Method Daily shower cleaner. Carpet stains I use “spot-out”. Stainless steel, I just use my dishwashing soap (Method brand) and a polishing rag, which is what the owner’s manual recommends.

James asks…

What are your favorite cleaning supplies and what do you use them to clean?

I am slightly spoiled and I really haven’t ever had to clean…I want to cancel my housekeeping service to try and save money but I’m not even sure where to start…..yes I know many of you will insult me but I want to properly stock up on cleaning supplies…which are the best?

Wize Guy answers:

OK… room by room first. Yes?
Kitchen-
Dishsoap- Dawn (cuts grease the best)

Dishwasher- Electrosol or Cascade.
Also to keep glasses from spotting or getting that white film in them- Jet Dry in the little hole dispenser or get a hanging one if u dont have the dispenser hole.

Empty Dishwasher and put in dishwasher cleaner and run once every other month. Check your food trap in the back once every couple weeks also.

Comet- for sink to scrub out stains and keep clean.

409, Fantastic or Spray Cleaner Lyesol- to quick clean cupbord fronts, stove and counters. Make sure they are anti-bactaria formula to kill the germs. Helps to get grease off as well. Wash daily with hot soapy water in between the sprays.

Oven Off for inside oven- See if your over has a automatic clean cycle. Use that once a week and then when it cools wipe out with Rag. For baked on stuff then clean it over night with the Oven Off cleaner. Spray and leave on over night then wipe out the next day. If u get streaks use vinegar with a paper towel to get off. (Also good to use on Oil spills on your drive way)

Coffee Maker- Once a month run 2 cups vinegar through your maker to clean out water deposits.

Floors- Lyesol or Pinesol….1/4 cup per gallon bucket I like these because they have disinfectant.

Windex- window cleaner or anything with glass. (*can use vinegar and newspapers in a pinch)

Clean out Microwave every day with hot soapy water but not too much soap or your food will smell and taste like the soap.

Broom- I like the old fashion kind.
2 buckets- one for floors and one to fill with hot soapy water to clean with or to carry cleaning products.
Mop- the white cotton string one that has a twister on it so you don’t get your hands all yucky.
Sponges, Non-Abrasive Scrub Pads, Dish Towels& washclothes, Dish scrub brush to rinse your plates off with and another regular scrub brush for misc. stuff., papertowels. Mr. Clean eraser, Trash bags, dish gloves for when your cleaning something yucky.

Clean your fridge out atleast once a week and put a box of Armour Hammer Baking Soda in it to absorb smells.

Toaster once every 2 weeks- a month. Unplug, open bottom shake out crumbs. Wipe down daily.

Wipe down all appliances daily as grease will build up on them and counters and cupboards. (you can use your spray for quick clean ups or hot soapy water if they are bad)

Run your dish disposal once a day and if it gets nasty smelling you can put lemon peels or a can of coke down it to help clean it out.

Bathroom-

Lyesol Toilet Bowel Cleaner- once a week or more if nasty
Lyesol Disinfectant Spray- for outside of tiolet )never use bleach as it makes unrine smell worse)
Comet- tub, sink
Tilex- Soap scum formula for soap build up on shower walls or Tilex Mildew for mildew (I use this every week just to prevent mildew growth) DO NOT mix the two. Use one or the other depending on what you need it for.
Scrubbing Bubble or Foaming Lyesol Spray for Vanity counter and faucets and shower glass doors.
Windex- Mirrors and Glass
Toilet Drop- In’s- I use the 5 month Lyesol blue ones. You take lid off the toilet and drop in the opposite side of the plunger thing. You will know when to change it as the water will not be blue anymore. This also helps to keep your tiolet clean.
Mop with Pinesol or Lyesol floor cleaner.
*Clean weekly unless more is needed. Wiping down vanity & sink every day is helpful. I use clorox quick disposable wipes for daily use and leave on the back of the toilet in case anyone else using the bathroom wants to use them also.

*Also they have a scrubbing Bubbles Automatic shower cleaner that you hang in your shower and once a day it sprays cleaner around your shower. Does a ok for every day use but I still clean my bathroom very well once a week also.
Wash your bathroom rugs once a week too.

Living room-

Pledge- spray on rag and dust once a week to once every 2 weeks. Depends on the dust u get. Use only on wood. Twice a year I use a wood oil for my good furniture.

Windex- spray on rag not directly on anything, making sure all electronics are shut off and not a lot on the rag. Wipe everything glass or plastic with that.

Feather duster for things you can’t dust with liquids- like plastics plants, lamp shades, etc.

Vaccuum once a day.

*Two to Three times a year take down all curtains and wash and iron. Unless u get a lot of dust. Vaccuum out coches also and under them.

Bedrooms-

Vaccuum once a day.
Dust like up above once a week.
Wash bedding every week.

*Once to twice a year I spray mattresses down with Lyesol Deogerizer spray because it kills dust mites and germs in the mattress. Flip your mattress over once a year.

Laundry Room-

Laundry soap- I like surf
Bleach- Clorox -always!!(never use generic it makes stuff yellow)
Fabric Softner- Snuggles or Tropical Scents is my Fav
Spray and Wash and Tide Pen for stains before washing
Startch- for ironing clothes and bottled purified water for iron to help cut down build up. Clean the iron before use anytime u get something stuck on it.
Small trash can with liners.
Scrub Brush- for tough stains
*Clean the laundry room once a week.

Vaccuum Cleaner- check inside the bag to see what kind u need and change that when the bag starts to get fat. Once a month u need to flip it over while off and make sure there are no strings and stuff stuck in there.

Air freshners for house- I like the glade plugs in- Jasamine
Spray air freshner for bathrooms
Candles- Yankee candles Pear and Apple

Oh! And to help cut down on dust- change your AC filter once a month.

Ok…I think I pretty much covered the house for u. If there is anything I missed or you want to know about outside clean up …hit me up. Before you say it…Your welcome! Happy Cleaning.
