If you’re living near the equator or near to the coast you’re probably well familiar with the term “humidity levels”, you know that uncomfortable “muggy” feeling you get when the air is still and it’s rainy or foggy outside.
A dehumidifier is a household appliance that reduces the humidity level in the air and makes it more comfortable. But humid air can also cause a variety of problems. It can cause mold or mildew to form which increases the chance of potential health problems. Home improvement and paint stores will carry mold and mildew resistant paint where problems tend to occur like the bathroom and basement.
High humidity levels can be very unpleasent for humans, imagine how you feel in an enclosed room with the dryer running, and imagine trying to fall asleep with that feeling. Insects and rodents like cockaroaches and moths prefer humidity as it tends to attract them.
When picking out a humidifier it’s safer to go with a larger capacity than than one that’s to small. Just like buying an air conditioner that’s to small it may have to work to hard to get the humidity levels down and may wind up not doing the job. If the outside whether is to humid or the clothes dryer is on it could affect the machine’s performance. If you live in an especially humid area you might want to consider getting a dehumidifier that’s a little bit larger than the square footage that is recommended by the manufacturer.
