Has it ever happened to you that you knew you were dreaming in your sleep? Chances are that you have, a number of times in your lifetime, even if it was for a sew seconds. For all you know, it might have been a start to a lucid dream wherein a person’s body sleeps but his mind is completely awake and thus travels to the realms of dreams with full awareness.

Thus, lucid dreaming entails the dreamer to firstly be aware of the fact that he is dreaming and secondly, in more advanced stages, have full dream control so as to see, do and experience whatever he desires in his dream having full power to manipulate and change it as required.

If you are a regular in the field of meditation then this rare phenomenon of lucid dreaming may be brought about, but only in its basics. Advanced lucid dreaming with full dream control can only be achieved with increased meditation, use of special techniques, a lot of focused effort and most of all practice and experience.

The problem faced in case of dream control is that of continuing the lucidity in the first place. One might be successful at minute changes at first, like that of changing the setting or scenes of your dream and the like, but when you want to gain more control and really manipulate your dream, it requires a considerable amount of force. Now, the problem lies in the fact that the more force you apply or the more frustrated and distressed you get over not being able to control you dreams as much as you would like to, you snap out of your dream and wake up.

Firstly, when you are in lucid dreaming and you find it hard to hold on to your dream scenes and feel them slipping away or rather fading away, the best technique to use would be dream spinning. A highly effective tool in case of dream control, this needs you to stand in a spot and spin around like a kid. The second technique for dream control is verbal commands. Whenever you find yourself loosing control, simply state whatever it is that you need, loudly. Many a times, you’ll find that the required change in your dream has taken place.

Moreover, if you are wanting to manipulate your dreams but are not being able to do so, going around it in a creative way can be a solution. E.g. You want a particular celebrity to feature in your dream but somehow you cannot bring him, you might just try calling him up and suddenly the person comes in front of you.

Lastly, another issue that lucid dreamers need to deal with is that of false awakenings. This refers to seeing yourself waking up within your dream. In order to avoid this, the best thing to do would be to undergo a reality check whenever you find yourself waking up so that you know whether you are still dreaming or you have woken up in reality.

Getting distressed and frustrated over repeated unsuccessful attempts at dream control is what makes you loose lucidity and wake up. So, never get distressed and remember that the above techniques would bail you out from any situation. Moreover, increased meditation would lead to greater control of mind, and the right attitude, that is, a belief in yourself that you can do whatever you are attempting to do, would take you along way in dream control.
