The most common complaints a person acquires in his lifetime are ear nose throat infections. More than half of the cases a physician receives are from patients with ear nose throat problems. ENT specialists normally treat sinusitis, ear infections, tonsillitis, nosebleeds, sleep apnea, and allergies. While there is no alternative to a visit to the doctor’s office, you can try some natural remedies at home.

There are natural home cures you can try if you have common and non-life threatening illnesses. For colds, sore throat, and other common concerns that often plague you, there are simple solutions you can do that are easily available at home.

For starters, drink a lot of water and other fluids. Water and fruit juices help loosen congestion. Also said to work wonders are herbal teas. Examples of herbal teas that you can benefit from when you have ear nose throat ailments are peppermint tea, a natural decongestant; aniseed and holy basil tea, for quick cough relief; chamomile tea, for sore throat; and thyme tea, a natural expectorant.

When suffering from ear nose throat ailments, avoid drinking alcohol, coffee, soda, and other caffeinated drinks. They will just make your dehydration worse.

Another trick to fighting ENT problems is by eating chicken soup. It’s a tried and tested medicine for coughs and colds. It has an anti-inflammatory property that is efficient in alleviating cold and flu symptoms. It also speeds up the movement of mucus, assisting in relieving congestions.

For sore throat, gargle with warm water with a half teaspoon of salt to momentarily ease the pain. By adding essential oils such as bergamot, tea tree and lemon, you are also adding antibacterial action to your warm salt water gargle.

Try inhaling aromatherapy steam during sinusitis attack. Essential oils can offer analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial qualities, which help unclog your airways. Add a few drops of peppermint, anise, or eucalyptus to the steam inhalation.

One of the best herbal medicines in the kitchen is garlic. Its antimicrobial features are very efficient in treating ear nose throat ailments, such as laryngitis and ear infections.

Many can attest the effectiveness of herbal home remedies for everyday ear nose throat health problems. However, they are best used as preventive measures only. Use home cures during the beginning phases of the problems. Remember, don’t brush off symptoms when they persist. Make it a point to see an ENT doctor or an otolaryngologist if the illnesses seem to go on for several days or more than regular and if you feel that they have worsened.

For problems concerning snoring, only trust a qualifiedENT doctor.
