Acne is a major issue particularly for females as they appear without any warning and leave a lot of permanent scars. No matter how much you hate it, acne is an undeniable part of most teenagers’ lives and a lot of effort must be put in fighting these ugly bumps and checking their reappearance.
Acne is a condition caused due to the reaction of bacteria and excessive sebum released by the skin glands. As the infection starts to heal, collagen, which is a protein, is produced in the inner layer of the skin. When the collagen is in excess, there is a protrusion and when its generation is low then it leads to tiny craters on the skin. Either of these eventualities can give rise to acne scars. Adolescents are normally more prone to acne infection as their hormones rise suddenly at the time of puberty causing greater sebum release.
Among the common reasons of acne infection are application of beauty products that are not suitable to the kind of skin, taking contraceptive medication, consumption of medicinal drugs, and hereditary factors. A number of lifestyle aspects including food that is not nutritious enough and mental stress can also result in acne. However, contrary to common belief, there is no scientific link between oily or junk food and acne.
Although a variety of lotions and herbal products are sold in the market to deal with acne, it is advisable to take medical help if the problem aggravates or keeps on recurring. It is also better not to pierce the lesion with sharp- edged objects or to press it as it makes the infection get worse.
A growing number of people are also opting for cosmetic treatments to remove acne scars and to get back a spotless skin. Laser treatment and surgery are also being done increasingly for getting rid of acne scars, in addition to a lot of new cures that have been developed by medical science. You should take advice from a reputed skin doctor who would be able to identify your skin type and suggest an effective remedy accordingly.
