I would suggest that you first level the ground as best you can,certainly you should remove all stones/rocks first. Spread about 2/3 inches,(5/7cm) of sand in such a way that it will protrude 6 inches,(15cm) beyond the edge of the pool.

You’ll need a little more than 2 cubic yards of sand 6″ deep leveled under the pool.
