Windows XP is a great operating system, for me at least it runs stably 99% of the time, there are the odd time it blips, but is usually pretty good. Many times better than older versions at least. It does suffer a bit from the great slow down. That is over time is just seems to get tired and slow down and there doesn’t appear to be any great cause for this.
There are a few things that you can do to speed things back up again.
Firstly defrag your hard drive, Windows is lazy and just stores stuff randomly on the hard drive rather that in one area, it just scatters it over the drive. This, after a while, slows things down. Defragging your hard drive is like tidying things up, making stuff easier to find.
Scan your registry for errors, the registry is like the organizer for your entire PC, if there are pages missing you’ll forget stuff. Well if there are errors in the registry then your computer loses track of stuff and can crash and run slow. If you run a registry scanner and fix these bugs then you stand a chance of your PC running better.
Spyware and Adware is a major cause of your PC running slow. You can get good spyware and adware detectors that are free and can search and destroy the spyware that collects on you PC.
A good tip is to get rid of the unwanted programs from your PC, its amazing how many bits of software are just running in the background that you never use. These just sit there and use up your computers resources, slowing your PC down.
If you don’t want to get rid of all your bits of software, you can limit the number of them that start up when you boot up your PC, once you look at what is running you can switch a lot of them off on start up so they don’t run in the background.
Computer running too slow. Don’t despair there is a lot you can do to get it speeding again.
