Even though hobbies are measured a pastime for us, they are still an valuable leisure for us to relieve stress.  Certain individuals prefer spending their free time in front of a Television watching their beloved series, watching DVD or playing video games.  Women, in particular, benefit from hobbies intended for home such as baking, cooking, sewing, designing, and so forth.

Unlike the other scale models, model train collecting require its collectors to not only to give importance to railway minutiae and sceneries, it also gives collectors the chance to learn how to tinker with the model tracks wirings. 

Configuring a model railway’s electrical setup will require technical skill and a hobbyist who has the pursuit to learn and do this will be doing your own wiring in due time.  The essence of analog model railway wiring is to be able to control the train’s direction, movement and momentum.  After you have made a proper change to you track’s wirings, you will be able to make your trains faster or slower and halt or go, even without a control panel.  In this way, your analog model railway will become automatic. 

Model trains and railways hobbying also mean attention to niceties that adds sceneries which include box tunnels, mountains, foliage and train stations.  Some collectors also put in miniature people and animals to their sceneries.  Weathering is another form of detailing in which both manufacturers and collectors add naturally occurring weather damage to their model trains based on the real thing.  Weathering powders are used to add weathering details to model trains.

There are six types of sizes offered in the market not just for model trains but for all kinds of scale models identified as scales and gauges.  These scales are (from biggest to smallest) G, 0, S, H0, N, and Z. 

It is up to you what scale or gauge you want to start your collection with but if budget and availability will play an important role with your scale model collection, you could settle for trains with scales of N, S or H0 as these scales are more affordable because they are smaller and have more fan-base with collectors making them obtainable almost everywhere.

Hobbyists who give time and effort to their scale models are often attentive to their collecting and log their collections to get them organized.  They are also meticulous in keeping their collections tidy and well maintained to prevent any malfunction with its function.  Whether a collector’s first scale model was given as a gift or bought by you, you will forever treasure it and will always have a special place in your heart, just like your first kiss.
