Architecture in the Vail Valley has traditionally been more of a European Style Architecture. This is because many of the founders of the Vail Valley were of Austrian Descent. A quick tour through the Village will display many different European Styles and not all of them are Austrian. Swiss Architecture styles can also be interpreted.

The Vail Village Remodel that has been taken place has not only maintained the European Styles, but the scale has started to become more similar to the European towns and cities with taller buildings and smaller streets that cater to pedestrians as opposed to vehicles. Vail Architects need to always keep this in mind as they renovate some of the older buildings throughout the village. Parking for the entire village is located along the north side of town and only service vehicles can access the village at certain times of the day. This promotes pedestrian traffic and creates a village atmosphere where people feel safe and able to enjoy this European village atmosphere.

Vail Architects will continue to follow European Styles and influences because the town is quite strict on the design guidelines. It is possible to see some modern style architecture in some of the homes on the mountain and surrounding areas, but buildings within the village will continue to be reminiscent of the European Village. After all that is one thing that attracts people from all over. Can you imagine a modern style building placed right in the heart of this European Village? Maybe in the next decade someone will be bold enough to introduce a modern element juxtaposing its European neighbor!
