In simple terms, an acne scar is the long lasting result of your skin’s trauma it has suffered whilst the inflammation was at it’s peak. Whenever our skin is damaged in any way, blood gets to the area carrying a mixture of the natural defences found within our own body. The body’s immediate response is to heal and prevent further problems by way of infection from external sources.

Unfortunately, although our skin does invariably manage to heal itself, it often does so with scant regard to how it looked in its before the acne struck. Once acne scars have formed, there are several ways of getting rid of them.

The most extreme of treatments would certainly be surgical procedures which can be carried out either via laser therapy, plastic surgery or injections of collagen directly into the scar. These methods of course involve difficult procedures, skilled and trained individuals, and in the case of laser therapy in particular, very expensive equipment. Of course the cost of these treatments as a result is considerably higher in price than alternatives.

Simpler methods of acne scar removal include processes such as micro-dermabrasion, micro-needling and silicone sheets. These methods, although are often provided by beauty professionals and clinics, can be carried out at home successfully, at a much reduced cost. It is often the case that these simpler procedures can create as good a final result and usually do not require a period of recovery after treatment.

It is important that before choosing a method of treating acne scarring, that research is done into all of the alternatives so the best balance can be made between all of the advantages and disadvantages. It is also worth baring in mind the recovery period, the length of time each treatment takes as well as any potential downsides.

Please remember to consult your doctor before going ahead with any type of medical procedure. Do not act upon any advice based soley upon this site.
